PULSE on DVD??

Posted by: Steve2701 on 19 April 2005

Ok, so like a great many on here I am awaiting PULSE (Pink Floyd) to be released on DVD.
I saw on here that it is likely to be later this year after the release of WYWH as its' thirtyieth anniversary.
When talking about this to my brother in law he says.. well why are there so many on EBAY?

I put in a search for PULSE DVD on the search bar of ebay and come up with.. well several copies for sale, and a guy who is selling loads, factory sealed? Someone else who purchased from Virgin music stores?

I guess these simply cannot be for real, but some state full 5.1 surround, and it has to be said that they look well done on the artwork side.

So has anyone here actually tried one of these?
Are they just copies to DVD from the VHS version?

This is a link to one of them

Or am I just WAY behind the times & should have purchased one of these months ago??

Hmmm a seller with 0 feedback, selling nothing but dvds that don't seem to exist in the shops. I smell a rat. It is available on vhs - some has probably dubbed it onto dvd (that'd be my theory, but not one I case to spend that much money to test, I'm sure we'll get a genuine one sooner or later).

According to amazon.com there was briefly a limited edition US only version so I guess it could be that one, but the site suggests there are a lot of bootlegs out there (the original one should include a booklet).

If you've seen PULSE on DVD, it is not legit. Gilmour is still mixing the sound and it has not been issued ANYWHERE. The Floyd are apparently also debating whether to include a second disc of extra material (several nights were filmed on the tour, and you can get 'em on boot DVD if you know where to look, and there are stacks of audio tapes).

The PULSE DVD will not be released until the Autumn at the earliest but I have my doubts about it appearing anytime before 2006.

However, just to be stroppy, it's not really Pink Floyd, is it? What about something much more interesting?

There is quite a lot of good quality footage out there (in spite of what the Floyd say), and there's a strong case for putting together a Led Zep-style anthology DVD, which could include stuff like the April 29th 1970 Fillmore West US TV PBS broadcast, The Wall live in London 1981, various promos, Venice 89, Atlanta 87/88, Chicago 88, Brighton & London Feb 72, Manchester March 1972, Earls Court 73, various snippets from the 74, 75 and 77 tours and countless TV appearances. That really would be worth having! i have also heard (an ubsubtantiated) rumour that there is good(ish) quality footage of PF playing in late 1969/early 1970.

Anyone who attended the Floyd's 1990 Knebworth gig will also have seen the amazing film which preceded their set, which contained some very tantalising stuff indeed...
