Hatton

I really can't wait for this fight, been looking forward to it since it was confirmed in the summer. Its a tough call but what are you all thinking? - Hatton victory? - I hope so.

Boxing matters aside I have to say I've read some great quotes from Hatton that suggest a real natural wit. Having spent a week in the company of his opponent doing promotion work he was asked if he was missing his children and replied something along the lines of, 'No, because I've been with this f***ing kid all week'. Classic.

I am alternately repelled and fascinated by boxing. I actually watched the Ali documentary 'When We Were Kings' this week which was enthralling, but as ever tinged by the sadness of Ali's current state.

I hope both men win-in that they walk away unharmed.

Go on Hatton!

Guiness shares are bound to increase if you win.

About three O'Clock in the morning IIRC. Hopefully it'll be on telly the next day - I shall attempt to avoid finding out the result beforehand. Some hope!

It's gonna be the irresistible force meets the immovable object, but I reckon Hatton's going to show there's no such thing as an immovable object! (I hope...)

Seriously though is he Rooney's uglier step brother or something?
Posted on: 07 December 2007 by scottyhammer
garyi,
ricky is battle hardened thats for sure, mayweather has NEVER been in with anyone who will constantly be on his case who can take a punch as well.
sure hes no film star looker - but hey, its fighting not ballroom dancing. my prediction:
RICKY TO STOP HIM IN 8 ROUNDS !

I worked with Ricky Hatton earlier this year. He's a nice humble bloke. His entourage were a rough bunch though.

I hope he does well.
Posted on: 08 December 2007 by scottyhammer
count,
would you expand a little on the rough bunch comment please.
Posted on: 08 December 2007 by count.d
Just a bit of humour. I wouldn't have liked to get on the wrong side of the other guys who turned up with him. He was a really nice though, with plenty of time for us.

Good thinking Batman (AKA Scotty)! That's just what I'll do, then I can watch it first thing in the morning. Shouldn't take long!

Radio Five Live have it down as a 4a.m. start

Come on Ricky Eek

Oh bugger... Frown
Posted on: 09 December 2007 by scottyhammer
having watched the fight which eventually started at 4:50 am - yawn!
i must say that i thought ricky was totally outclassed and should consider his next move very carefully as i do worry about the amount of punches he is now taking.
if i was rickys advisers i would get the junior whitter fight on as it would be a sell out in england and then ricky could retire with wealth, dignity and all of his marbles intact.
i think he is a smashing guy -very down to earth and witty who has a great future in the game as a pundit or trainer.
good luck son. scotty Winker

read today that rickys share should amount to around £20m for the fights televised rights - a deal which hatton snr negotiated, which turns out to be very shrewd business sense......lets hope his son now has the sense to retire a wealthy and healthy man!!
Posted on: 12 December 2007 by fidelio
yes, retiring from the ring would be the "logical" thing to do, w/ whatever is left of the 20m., after your taxman is done. but great fighters like mr hatton find it dificult to resist "one more fight." i hope he does quit, though, he seems a fine fellow and i'd hate to see him become a jellybrain like so many american fighters have (and remember jerry quarry??). there's certainly no shame in losing to a skilled undefeated boxer like mayweather, who i was happy to see was very respectful of hatton.
Posted on: 14 December 2007 by scottyhammer
oh dear,
rickys talking of a rematch with mayweather !
i think he may still be concussed from the beating he took. Frown
Posted on: 14 December 2007 by fidelio
see what i mean? they can't stay away .... i suppose it's one of the marks of a "real" fighter, but hope if he does get another match he doesn't take too many more shots to the head.

Like a moth to candle flame, or so it seems to me, and that is sad.

George

I can see why you think it is sad but Hatton is a competitive athlete and like all competitive athletes is full of confidence and therefore he thinks he can do it next time....he would probably lose again but good luck to him.

Cheers

I don't think the referee did him any favours. The only chance he had against a man with superior boxing ability was to get inside and rough him up, and the ref, who was awful IMO, stopped him doing that. Maybe (and we're talking a big maybe) if he'd been allowed to work inside he wouldn't have needed to chase the fight and walk onto the punch that finished him.
There is no shame at all in losing to Mayweather; the guy is quality and has really fast hands. Hatton admitted he didn't see half the punches coming! I'm sure he won't want to finish his career on a defeat though, so I hope his goes back to his proper weight has one more fight to get his belt back before calling it quits.

Steve O.
