Firefox; Anyone had the same problem ?
Posted by: Malky on 04 April 2005
Downloaded Firefox yesterday but when I open the browser I get an Alert message. "start.mozilla.org could not be found. Please check the name and try again."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice but this problem still persists. I'm running Windows xp, any suggestions, please keep them simple, I'm not terribly computer literate.

IIRC this might the default startup page and can be reset set via at Tools > Options > General.
Try and change the page using the Use Blank Page option and then close the Tools window. You should now be able to use the Firefox shortcut icon and see what happens this time - with any luck you should not need to uninstall then re-install to get it working correctly.

Yes I can, and I'll also say that this thread probably has more direct answers to direct questions than any I've seen for a long while, innit.

Thanks for the advice Roy, but unfortunately, this has not solved the problem.

Cheers Roy,when I changed my Norton Firewall from Mozilla 'block all' to Mozilla 'permit all' Firefox now works. Have I done the right thing re: security issues.

yeh, U need to tell your firewall that Mozilla needs to access the internet (or it won't be able to ).
The answer above refering to ZoneAlarm was effectively saying this (though U use Norton Firewall rather than Zonealarm)

Don't uninstall IE - some web sites [e.g some banks] won't work without it.

I'm not going to uninstall it, just stop using it. Couple of bods who know more about the web than I do told me IE is notorious for browser-jacking, viruses etc.. and FF should be browser of choice.
