Joan Armatrading - Back to the Night - Help!!

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 23 June 2006

When I sold my record collection, replacing my faves with CDs, this was one of the records I sold. It belonged to wife, and was her favourite Joan album. She was not a happy bunny!

It was very limited on CD, and a used import from the US costs over £150!

Does anyone have a good vinyl copy and a CD recorder who could help me out? Or even a copy of the CD at a more sensible price.

I'm trying to sort this out for her birthday at the end of July.

Have a look here http://www.musicstack.com/tsearch/joan+armatrading/back+to+the+night
several copies on vinyl and cd from the UK.

Thanks Steve, but the only 'proper' CD is over $200 and the other two that look like CDs are actually CDRs that you buy with the LP, to get round copyright. They sound like a ripoff to me. But maybe I'll have to resort to one.

Well they always say buyer beware - good luck in the search.

I Have a US pressing that I can transfer to CDR, but I have to go to tape first, via a Sony Walkman pro. If it's of interest mail me at chris@motech.demon.co.uk and I'll sort it out.

Chris

Please don't think me rude not to have noticed your kind offer. I have found a US CD for $100 on Amazon.com, which is expensive but cheaper than all the others I've seen. If it's knackered I'll take you up on your offer!!

Hi Nigel

Try checking this site for the cd you require. It appears much cheaper than the ones you have been quoted. They all appear to be in USA but all are NEW cds.

http://www.netsoundsmusic.com/

Just type in the name of the cd and there are a few places to buy. Hope this helps. Prices are around £35

Thanks Jim.

Unfortunately all those on the site are CDRs. I received my $100 original today. It's in great condition and Hilary is dead chuffed.

I'm glad your present worked out.

Wish her a Happy Birthday from us all.

I'm amazed the full Joan Armatrading catalogue is not available when you consider the dross that is!

Agreed - I never understand why Melanie's catalogue is not available in full - I was surprised to hear that Joan Armatrading's catalogue was not available in its entirity: it should be. It does annoy me that some private sellers try to rip people off - I've seen Shirley Collins records advertised for £100+ when I know they are still available at the standard retail price.

Then again, Martha & the Muffins This Is the Ice Age is no longer available in the UK - one the greatest records every made. So why does record company/retailer apathy surprise me.

Perhaps - large online catalogues and a Naim music server will enable us to collect the music we all want to hear.

Anyway - I'm glad you found a copy of Joan's Back to the Night and the present went down well.
