Life Preparation

As a teenager my mother was extremely ill and during this time I learnt very quickly how to cook basic meals, wash and iron and as my father was hopeless with money, do a budget and make it work.
We note that today more and more young adults are returning to the family nest as they cannot manage when they leave home.
Would not it be a good idea if schools taught basic life skills such as these?
I remember when I left home for the first time being in a company house with several other youg men. It was a caes of sink or swim.
At one extreme there was the lad who took a steak and threw it on the hotplate, that's right , no frypan needed, and the other who could cook a three course meal with all the trimmings.
I reckon if I were a young lady I know who I would choose.
