Amazon Reviewers

Are any of the you Music Room patrons Amazon Reviewers?

If so I think it would be great if you could link to a review which you are particularly proud of, either positive or negative -(sometimes reviews can be very sycophantic that the one less than positive review tells you more about the album than all the glowing ones).

I'm not an Amazon reviewer myself but seem to remember that perhaps Stefan is form a previous post, but I could be wrong.

It's the excellent Mingus thread that got me thinking along these lines.

I think most members would find these reviews interesting as from frequenting the forum we would have some idea of the reviewers tastes.

I’m not an Amazon reviewer but I always love to read any reviews, and they do influence my decision to buy, usually rightly so, but no always...

It does make me wonder about contemporary music (such as indie) and if those sparkling 5 star reviews are from friends or associates of the Band, just trying to promote and sell more copies of a new cd release from a lesser known artist with a bit of little talent spread way too far.

However, with more established music, especially classical and jazz, reviewers can be more subjective with their account of the performance and give good account of the quality of record engineering too, these reviews can be very interesting and helpful.

One can’t beat hearing the performance for one’s self though, before parting with one’s hard earned cash! ; )

Had you not confessed, the nom de plume would probably have protected your identity for quite some time Smile

ps. never done an amazon review myself, find some to be interesting reading, base my purchases on personal knowledge or recommendations from the "known lunatics" on this forum. "Audiophiles in Amazon" does have a nice ring to it, though.

Am I mistaken, or did George recently post that he had done an Amazon review? Whether or not, if by suggesting it I have offended, then I apologise.

I've done one or two, but I don't like to because Amazon claim copyright over anything you right, which I find objectionable in the extreme.

I therefore only do it when I profoundly disagree with the consensus (such as concerning the James Levine DVD of Wagner's Ring cycle or Runnicles/Atlanta performance of Carmina Burana).

Indeed so! I posted the review of Elgar's Violin Concerto, which came in a glorious performance, here!

No offense taken of course. The funny thing is that Amazon did not publish it for some reason! I was not sorry!

I will keep my musical opinions for this place alone, as most here know my priorities, so have a context for anything I might post.

In a way, I would generally recoil from posting an Amazon review, as somehow being possibly presumptuos, so I was glad that it never appeared. At least here it is open to challenge, which is a good thing, and keeps any of us down to size ...

Actually, you can comment on Amazon reviews now, so they are open to challenge.
