I think the K stands for the type of phono boards installed - 'K' boards being for low output moving coil cartrs ala Linn.
Hope that helps.

Yep there were/are two types of boards for moving coil cartridges - the standard ones (known as 'S' boards) and ones optimised for Linn moving coil cartridges. They were first produced when Linn's best MC cartridge was the Karma - hence the 'K'

Phillip,
Phil is right. It's worth knowing that the 'S' and 'K' boards are interchangeable for many moving coil cartridges, its just that the 'K' was optimised for the asaK, asaKa, Karma, TroiKa etc produced by Linn.

Phil, Noel,
Is the "K" the appopriate board for all Linn MC's (Klyde for example)?
And now for a very stupid question (sorry Richard
): when you get a prefix, do you also have the choice between 'S' and 'K'? Do the come with the prefix or can/must you get them separately?

He had been influenced by Kinks who spelt every thing possible with a K.

Apparently also the Stageline is also available in 'S' or 'K' mode.
So if 'S' = standard and 'K' = Karma, what does 'N' for Moving-magnet stand for (Normal?) ?

Have you had the amp from new. If not, you may not have K boards fitted. It may be worth checking the boards.
I use a DL103 and find there is little difference between K and S boards.
K boards will basically livening up a dull cartridge, S boards will mellow a bright cartridge. I suppose a neutral cartridge works well with both.
(I think Ive got the above the right way around)
