Creek 5350se vs 112/150
Posted by: Vaughn3D on 09 May 2003
I am probably asking a biased audience, but has anyone here compared the 5350se to a 112/150 combo? I am using Audio Physic Spark III speakers and an original Planet. I currently own and enjoy a 5350se but my friend would love to purchase it from me so I am considering an upgrade. I listen to mostly rock music and don't want to give up any bass. thanks everyone

Hello Vaughn3D,
Yes I have compared these two items, before I had any bias! (in fact I had hoped that I would have prefered the Creek) but in my humble opinion although the Creek was execellant the 112/150 is in a different league. (And of course more upgradable).

I have a planet 2000 cd player, wich was demoed with a creek 5350 SE. I really like the combination, sweet and detailed.
When I bring the planet home to my 112/FC/150 the difference is notorious.
The naim rig is just more musical and I think it brings me closer to the music.
At the end, it is a matter of taste and I think the Creek would be better if you like classical and vocals.
Let us now your findings.
Happy listening.

Thanks Steve. Can you describe a bit about the advantage that the the 112/150 had? Which amp had the better bass? I do want a slighly more dynamic sound (dont we all) but I don't want to sacrifice the smooth presentation that my Creek gives me. thanks

I think they sound rather different to each other and that you need to either listen at the Naim combo at your home or bring your speakers to a dealer. Nice speakers by the way.
good luck

I don't think you can quantify Naim in terms of bass or treble or any of the oft used Hi-Fi speak. I have listened to much kit at home and some are 'better' in one way or another but I cannot find anything that equals Naim for communicating the essence of the music. It is certainly smooth, if the recording is smooth, certainly has bass if that was what was recorded. It is faithful to the source especially with a Naim CD player. The only way to find out if you like it is to listen but don't analyse just let the music speak to you....."Use The Force, Luke"
