Hear Shirley Collins choice of 10 tracks to take into space

You can hear Shirley in conversation with Dilly Barlow and listen to her choice of 10 tracks to take into space on Lewes's own Rocket Radio on 87.8 MHz. To be broadcast on Saturday 29th October at 17.00pm with a repeat on Sunday 30th October at 11.00pm. If you can't get Rocket Radio then you can hear the broadcast over the Web at www.rocketfm.org.uk

If you don't know who Shirley is then she has a web site at www.shirleycollins.com - and where have you been, if you don't - you are really missing something!

Oh and and I've made a list of all the singers that I think are better than Shirley - here it is

End of List
(No of entries 0).

Don't believe me listen to Folk Roots, New Roots or any of her other albums.

False True Lovers

This is an early record from the late 50s. It has Shirley singing and playing the banjo - I really like it, but it is an acquired taste and may not be the best place to start.

Power Of The True Love Knot

This has Shirley with Dolly Collins and the Incredible String Band - it is a wonderful elpee: Unquiet Grave. Over the Hills and Far Away, Lady Margret & Sweet William are my favourite tracks on this. A very good place to start.

No Roses
Do you like Sandy Denny style Fairport Convention or early Steeleye Span - then if so you'll really like this. I often think I'll play a couple of tracks from No Roses and end up playing the whole thing.

Hmmm difficult, but I'd buy

1. Power Of The True Love Knot
2. No Roses
3. False True Lovers

in that order, if I didn't already have them.

However, I think Folk Roots, New Roots is Shirley's best album, but it's not on the list.

I think the three Shirley Collins albums are better than anything else on the list, although I like The Birds and The Syn too.

At least you got one very good Shirley Collins record to listen to. You can order direct for diverse vinyl. Otherwise, it is the silver disc from Fledg’ling Records. I have Within Sound from them and it is very good.

Hope you enjoy 'No Roses'.
