More 'What Brings You Joy?'

Posted by: JWM on 22 September 2007

As the originator of the previous threadhttp://forums.naim-audio.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5801938...692906907#3692906907, now sadly closed, I just hadd to add the following...

What brings me joy?

Two of my offspring, aged 16 and 12, asking if I've "got any be-bop", or "a record called 'Blue Train'".

I just had to tell someone who'd understand!

We're currently enjoying - as a family Eek - "Kinda Blue" on 200g Quiex

James,

It warms the cockles of my heart to hear that you are obviously enjoying the same thrill of seeing your kids grow up with interesting tastes in music see a recent thread.

My daughter's iPod has my entire iTunes library on it, and she often tells me what a load of crap it is. Strangely whenever I hear what she is playing it is usually one of my discs Big Grin

Enjoy

When my 9 year old daughter asked me to put "Highschool Musical" on her iPod I came to an agreement: yes I would, on the condition I also put on something more interesting, less anodyne and obviously commercial that I thought she might like. So on went The Ramones 'Blitzgreig Bop'.....her eyes literally popped from their sockets....great!

The latter is more from my 'highschool era'....Bill Evans gets more play these day(sad 40-something I know).

Just now my daughter wanted to know how cars are made. So I showed the kids an assembly line movie on youtube, and then we played assembly line with the Lego. They caught on with the idea right away. Which was nice.

It's worth it! A year into the pain my youngest is coming out the other side! Has taught herself the intro/main hook in Muse's 'Newborn'... (It does become embarrassing, I admit, when dad spontaneously provides vocals... Roll Eyes)

If you don't know it, here's Muse, 'Newborn', the opener from 'Origins of Symmetry'.

Some old chestnuts:

Sitting in front of my 'set' (© GFFJ) and just immersing myself in the music. I just lose myself and the stresses of the week just fall away.

Watching rugby, football, cricket, athletics and F1.

Joking about with my children.

Watching people that I manage at work flourishing in their jobs.

Thinking how wonderful it is to share the privelege that is life. (Sorry if that is too cringeworthy for you but I mean it)
