Living in LA you'd think there'd be the best FM rock, but it's old and stale and lots of commercials. Suddenly I hear a great station called The Sound 100.3.
It's just amazing, they go back to the 60s all the way to today. I've been listening seriously for almost a week. It just rages great music. NEVER get bored. The selections are just magical, things I just can't have and opening my ears to the best of today since I'm an old foggy at 55.
One afternoon in LA Traffic I found it and listened to it going thru LA just rocking out. Beautiful day to see the skyscrapers ,sky, and bridges. Home at 5 and grabbed a drink and listened till 1 AM. And they play long versions and vinyl. It just amazes me it's a group of really artful DJs creating great selections. Full range of art and emotion and style.

I love what's gone on but only radio for long time till lately, they used to focus on a couple decades. But this station pays so much. They had a guy from Keane I think, that was guest DJ I finally got to hear some of the British bands and ended with Nick Drake and comments about him, so wonderful to hear.
But I tell you there's a whole other level of artistry in what they play. It's just the best stuff. Just a few songs back it was Revolution #1 by Beatles, I haven't heard the slow version in ages. That was so wonderful in my basement on the turntable. Now I got to hear it on an amazing system and clear recording, So may layered guitar sounds in it, with John singing in the mix of distorted guitar. You probably don't know what a cataclysmic it was for a 15 year old and the Vietnam war.
Tho music now has that same opportunity to say something about our lives. I have not kept up with current rock but It really shows me the best of today. I"m really impressed.
Well, back now, It was Beck but now Steely Dan.
Enjoy

Appears it also available on the net.
In a similar vein, you really owe it to yourself to try a listen to Steve Barker's show 'On The Wire' on Radio Lancashire, also available on the net. Cracking stuff.

yeah I don't use my Mac for internet radio but I'll take you up on that one. 100.3 is on the internet but doesn't support Mac I don't think. Why would I when the big boys in the living room can be activated with the push of a button? They've also advertised a number to text to get the current song which I"ve never heard before around town. I've sent in requests on their site last night and had a nice response back from the afternoon DJ.
Gee, it's mind boggling that I could hear a British radio station. Thanks for the tip.

Well, I've sent several emails to the station DJs and 3 have responded back I asked the geeky question of what equipment they use here's Larry's answer.
quote:
Our turntable is a good solid Technics SL-1200MK5. Our cd players are also pretty standard issue Denon units, the kind you can bang on, spill coffee in and they just shrug it off and keep playing. But the bulk of our music is coming off a big, fancy computer system that stores our entire library digitally and is merely a mouse scroll and click away...which can be very convenient when you've changed your mind last minute and want to create the perfect song segue.
I listen and don't hear any compression issues as you would in DAB.

Great, it's wonderful, it only gets grungy, synths or acoustic for one or two songs, it's just all over the map. Stuff I thought was cheesy over the years now sounds inspired by the artfully crafted selections and contrasts. So much new stuff I don't know. Some I"ve had in the past. In all I'd say it is a white male perspective on rock focussing on 80s thru today, but drops back to 60s and 70s.
Outlets for Bonneville are also Chicago Seattle Phoenix St Louis, Cincinnati, Chicago.
I sent several emails to them Andy got back to me, I'd said I was 55 yo and saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. half hour later he said "Glenn, I hope you're listening the next one is for you." and he put on Tom Petty "old 55", too much fun.

it's amazing we can be so far apart and hear other's music stations.
