The new season kicks off in Bahrain.
McLaren are off to a flyer as Kimi Raikkonen's car conks out with an electrical fault 12 laps into the first practise session!
Raikkonen's team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya also complained of problems with his car.
Michael Schumacher set the second fastest time behind Honda test driver Anthony Davidson, with Renault's world champion Fernando Alonso fifth.

...so what do you all think about the race? i think renault, ferrari and honda are the hot teams this year and rosberg junior was pretty good on 7th place for his first race!
also ferrari is back (what was that felipe massa ?!??) but the bridgestones are still not up to the michelin tires.
it's a great relief to see mechanics changing tires again at a pitstop. it somehow looked very ill last season!
somehow renault is the new ferrari - with alonso never ever making even the slightest mistake, having the most reliable car and now even the best race strategy.
would have liked to see schumacher win anyway!

Rosberg was amazing!
Not so sure about Honda, I think McLaren will be strong, don't forget Kimi beat Button, despite starting at the back.
Totally agree about the pit stops, very nice to see them back.
Alonso drove a faultless race but I was a tad concerned to see him gesticulating at backmarkers he was nowhere near.
I thought Schumacher was going to win right up to the last lap.

basil you're right about mclaren - kimi starting from 22nd and finishing as third - respect! but the mercedes are nowhere as reliable as the best of the rest, the last season was cruel for kimi - he should have normally won the championships imo.
it's somehow ridiculous that you can win a race in the box. what abou that turbo boost button for overtaking manouvres they aere writing about last season?

I don't think it is, remember this is a team sport and Renault's pit crew played their part.

Old Schui is losing his competitive edge though. In the past he'd have just rammed Alonso as he came out of the pits.

Maybe he's run out of space on the mantle piece for more trophy’s?

Renault where using 20,000 RPM during qualifiying and "only" 19,000 in the race a quite useful 5% boost available.

you're right but i would love too see more manoeuvres on the race track!
i remember the last monte carlo race where nick heidfeld did some brilliant things after the end of the tunnel just before the chicanery (is that the right term?). that was quite terrific!
