72 without link and phonoboards

Posted by: Hermann on 10 June 2001

Hi guys,

I updated my girlfrends nait3 to 72/140. Pulled out the Bufferboards, the phonoboards and the variable link boards.

It sounds fantastic. But now there is just one usable input and alot open contacts insite.
I do not have and wont buy new linkboards.

Now my question. With of the pins do I have to bridge to let the singnal pass.
For every channel are 4 pins on the mainboard. I guess 2 for the power, one in and one out.

Does somebody know with two to link to get the signal through?.

Thanks

Thanks David,

for your advise.

But the linelevelboard didn't show that very clear and I got no linkboards to see with pins to bridge.

Well I guess it's easy to see it on the link board because they dont use the powerpins.

Maybe somebody with linkboards have a quick look insite his 72 and tells me witch pins to bridge.

I am not sure whether your boards are the same as the ones I have for my 52, labelled NA526/1 and NA526/2.

The configuration for my boards is as follows:-

The four plugs arranged in a rectangle around the corners of the four sides of the board are not connected ..they are purely for seating the board on the motherboard.

The three pins, one in the centre top and two together forming a letter "Y" are all connected to each other.

On the 52, there are 2 of these boards, one on the top of the motherboard and one on the underside.. these give the 2 channels left and right.

Perhaps someone on the forum could confirm whether the 72 boards are the same.

We don't want to make any expensive mistakes!

Hope you solve your problem soon.

Hi Michael,

I can conform that they aren't the same. I used to own a 52 too.
The pins into the 72 are in one line and in the 52 not.

There's a picture of what looks like a link board - may give you the answer?

Thanks all for your help.

Andy, thats exactly what I'm looking for. Funny it's a Japanese server but shows some good pictures.

I'll give it a try.

You could get a simple link board from Naim. I have them in my 72. They also do a variable level board. The link should be reasonable in price. Otherwise I beleive that the pins are arranged in a set of 3 the one spaced a little further away. It is the middle one of the 3 and the lone one that connect.

Hi Milan,

Couldn't wait on the linkboads. You're correct with the pins. I did it yesterday and works fine.

The hole system CD3.5/Hicap, 72/Hicap, NAT3, 140, Tokan(on Base but will changed to Mana soon), A5 sounds very very good. My girlfriend is happy with that and has never spend so much time to listen music. And the system is still into the warm up circle.

Unbelievable but the size of her listening room is about 135 qm!! Big room indeed and very high.

One wall is 8m high and the other one is 6m high. It housed a factory before. At the opposite site of the system (it is the higher wall) is a gallery (5m by 5m, the floor is 3 m high). This gallery is about 12m away from the system. Even at the gallery it sounds fantastic.

Listen to Keith Jarreds Koeln Concert yesterday. Was easy to hear how bad the piano is and how good this guy can play.
Or Vangelis' Heaven and Hell or Dave Brubecks Take Five, Metallica S&M, Roger Waters The Wall live, or the Callas !! Unbelieveble Voice.

Well this system is really into music.

Thankx all you guys
