Looks like they have finally got together - Sonos will be supporting preium spotify users from the end of the month!
Nice.
Maybe I regret selling my ZP90

Because I spent all the time controlling it from my computer...so I just plugged my computer into my snait

I'm pleased it's coming too, I'd connect my laptop to my system then always find something to browse for and not really listen to the music 100%.
This way i can control with iPhone and just listen !

I sold my Sonos ZP90 last year and switched to a Mac Mini / HiFace which I've been using ever since . After reading about the forthcoming Spotify integration and iPad app I decided to pick up a ZP90 this morning for another try.
Plugged it in to my Lavry and pointed the software to my music library on the NAS and downloaded the iPhone app on to my Ipad .
I'm now struggling to remember why I got rid of it last year , so much easier to access Radio and Last FM than the Mini . I think I will keep it this time !

Are you finding any difference on sound quality?

No , not really . Early days , but sounding great so far .

Sonos so simple.
It will be interesting to see how a Sonos/DC-1/N.DAC compares with a NDX.
Currently using a Sonos via DC-1 to S/Nait. Sounds great!

John - I have a Sonos & SN too, but I'm currently using a QED Reference Coax cable. Did you upgrade to the DC1 after initially using something else, if so what did you have before and what sort of difference did you get with the DC1?
Cheers.

John - this is very intersting. Could you tell us a bit about the quality of sound produced by Sonos through the SNDAC and compare that to the CDX2/HL/SN? That would be really helpful. I am planning to go down the same route, Sonos into SNDAC first and then upgrade with a NDAC. I can relate to the CDX2/HL/SN sound as I got the same set up.
Cheers!

Can anyone tell me if Sonos will be able to access music ripped to an nServe (the internal 1tb version)?

I did a similar comparison, but with a flatcapped CD5XS rather than a CDX2, vs the Sonos system into the SNDAC. The CD sounded preferable, mainly being a little tigher in the bass. The Sonos sounds very very good, but just not quite as good as the CDP. But it beats it hands down on conveniance
I also tried the digital out of the CD5XS into the SNDAC, and this changed the CD performance onto a par with the Sonos. My take on that was that the SNDAC, whilst very good, is not quite as good as the CD5XS DAC, so I would expect that you would notice a difference compared the the CDX2.
However, add the NDAC and it takes the Sonos above the CDP. The NDAC has now replaced my CDP and Flatcap and I have a better sounding, easy to use and much more versatile system.
So I guess be prepared for a downgrade CDX2 to Sonos/SNDAC but later adding the NDAC may take you to a better place. But as always, only your own ears can tell.

Thanks for the feedback, very useful. I gives me some peace of mind to know that I will be able to really enjoy the SQ of Sonos via the SNDAC for the time being, until I have saved enough money to buy the NDAC. I was a bit worried that the quality of Sonos into the SNDAC would be unsatisfactory and that I needed to speak to my bank about a loan
I will keep my CDX2.2 though as it has a digital out and is upraded hugely by the NDAC. I already auditioned this combination and the final SQ is even better than the CD5XS/NDAC combo, which I auditioned at the same time.
Also, I do like my CDs and the idea of putting a physical disk into the CDP. It makes for a more relaxing musical experience, plus the sound is very good indeed. I would not want to go for streaming only. But it is a nice additional medium into which I do want to get into as there are clearly benefits to the whole Sonos experience as well.

Sonos and Spotify went live today!
Posted on: 29 September 2010 by AS332
Spotify and an iPad app for the Sonos this morning ! I'm like a pig in poo , fantasic . Added to the ease of access to my library , Last FM and Radio the ZP90 is a great little box .
The only thing that seems to be missing from the Spotify service for Sonos is the ability to add albums/tracks to a Spotify playlist , maybe that will come next . Very happy with it so far .
Oink oink

Below form 'cult of the Mac' site. really time for Naim to step up their game as their apps v costly and no iPad version.
The Sonos Controller for iPad is now available on the iTunes App Store.
The app turns the iPad into a music hub for WiFi-connected Sonos players, streaming music from a variety of online music sources.
We got a sneak peek earlier this summer and were very impressed. The slick app makes digital music very easy — especially listening to online music services like Pandora, Rhapsody, Last.fm and the fantastic Mog.com. Using the iPad as a big Wi-Fi remote control, you can play music from your iTunes library, thousands of online radio stations, satellite radio subscriptions, or online sources.
Sonos sells wireless music players that make it easy to get multi-room audio around your house. Plug in a player in each room and stream music to each one (or the same music to all of them). Sonos’ products have won kudos for painless setup, ease of use, relative low-cost (you can spend a lot more) and innovation — this is the home stereo of the future. The iPad app takes it to the next level.
Analyst Michael Gartenberg is a fan. “I’ve been testing for a while and it shows the power of the tablet platform perfectly,” he just tweeted.

I am so gutted I ditched my Sonos

Thing is, why does it have to be Premium? Why can't it be free like it is when you're on your PC? And why is that also the case for the Spotify phone app??? (So annoyed by that.)
Posted on: 29 September 2010 by Occean
I guess they need incentives for premium users - also the quality is much improved on the PC as well as advert free when you subscribe.
There would be no on screen ads with Sonos or mobile if it were free...

I have been running the Sonos iPad app for a while this evening with Spotify. It works real great!!
Spotify is still compressed (320kbps I think) but very useful for finding new music.
I use the Sonos for internet radio and Spotify.

Hope this is not moving too off topic but has anyone tied a ZonePlayer 90 into say a supernait or XS? I wonder how such a combination would compare to the Qute..?

I'm using a ZP90 as my primary source via coax into my SN - very pleased with it. Although I am tempted by the Audiocom mods mentioned by Occean. Does anyone use an Audiocom Modded ZP90?

Sorry, long overdue to respond to this - the sound quality of the Sonos via DC1 into the Supernait (Hicapped) is good but lacks the polish of the CDX2/Hiline/Powerline combo.
Specifically it fails to present those things that in my opinion mark out true high fidelity reproduction - silky smooth, transparent, the shimmer of a cymbal, the echo of the venue, the way you can hear 'around' a vocalist etc.
I had made up a patch cord to convert the 3 pin kettle plug to 2 pin figure 8 type (ages ago for a non-audio project) and I decided to give the Sonos a spin with this and the Powerline that usually powers the CDX2.
The old magic is back. The Powerline transformed the sound - it now has all the fundamental attributes mentioned above. The Supernait DAC seems to be extremely competent which is a nice surprise. It would be interesting how the nDAC would perform as an alternative (presumably better).
Incidentally, whilst all my rips are simultaneously made in WAV, FLAC and MP3, I only use the WAV ones as I have found the Sonos is even more compromised in sound quality when using FLAC.
