Multi Room Hi-Fi

Posted by: Not For Me on 23 November 2003

Following on from the FT article, the Sunday Times on 23/11/03 has a plug for Hi-End Hi-Fi, (Naim, Linn, Cyrus, Meridian, B&O) but then mixes it up with multi-room, confusing the issues totally?

Some bright young things have spent £200k on multi-room installation in a £2m house. It is now de riguer in any new loft apartment.

I have multiroom - it is called my old Hi-Fi's which get retired to other rooms.

Has anyone done successful Real Hi-Fi multiroom?

My multiroom system involves turning the volume up and opening all the doors....

I have a small problem in that the two rooms that I want Hi-Fi in are in different countries.

I have a Naim multi-room system by using a 140 amp plugged into a 4-way speaker switcher box which feeds dining room, hall and study respectively. The 4th set might end up being in the kitchen.
I have a remote control extender system with IR sensors in the relevant rooms so I can change volume etc.
If I want to isolate, for example, the dining room, I have to go into the main room to switch off that speaker set but generally, I just leave all the speakers on unless I am doing seriously loud listening on the main system in the main room.....
Works well for what I want it for :-)

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

hello blythe - an interesting setup - can you tell any difference in the sound quality with and without the speaker selection unit....if not this just might save me buying a nait 3 amp (which no doubt i will then proceed to upgrade and hence spend a lot of money on!) - as i want a 2 channel cinema setup in a room next to a naim hifi and i hadnt really though of connecting 2 sets of speakers to the one amp.
