Living Voice and Naim????
Posted by: bec143 on 25 February 2004
Sorry to repeat a Pink Fish post here, but I'm getting a suprising response over there!
Has anyone had experience with the Auditorium II with Naim (my setup is CD5/Hi/112/Hi/150)? The pink folk say- NO WAY, IT WILL NOT WORK! Is this really true?
Thanks,
Bruce

Have a word with Nick Lees. He tried some Avatar OBX's a while back with his, at that time, 52/135's and it simply didn't work.
I've heard them sounding great but not in a Naim system - no idea why.

Hi Bruce,
I don't know about the Auditoriums, but I have OBX-Rs and they partner fantastically. My Naim dealer dropped by recently to drop off a super-cap for me to dem, and was so impressed by the sound, he talked about getting in touch with Living Voice.
The record on the Forum has certainly been mixed, and Nick's experience sounds just awful. From my conversations with Living Voice and others, it seems that the performance is very different between the new and olive kit. I have never heard any of the olive equipment and so I cannot comment.
Let me know if you are ever in London -- you are more than welcome to drop by for a listen.
All the best,
Will

why struggle matching Living Voice speakers to Naim gear when there are much better alternatives.
Look at Neat speakers which work extremely well with Naim gear, so well you could almost say they were made for each other.

Dunno if I'd say LV are in any way inferior to Neats ('xcept perhaps their looks) - I've always been very impressed by the OBX-Rs. Never heard them with a Naim tho'.
I'd choose OBX-Rs over Petite/Gravitas any day, but as I haven't heard the MFS I would have to hear it before judging...

John,
I have heard the Living Voice speakers and they were stunning. They were not on the end of a Naim sistem though!
I have also heard the Neats and they were equally stunning and they were on the end of a Naim sistem! Some kit was just made for each other and some are not.
Regards

Thanks for the replies. It's just that there are some interesting used options locally right now.
NB- I had Neat Elites at home for a bit, but they just couldn't fill up my room adequately. They sounded tight but tiny. It's really two rooms combined, and on the large size (30 ft X 15 ft X 9 ft and one side is open).
Topcat- The other speakers in the area now are Virgo II's, and I know that you like the III's. I am a little concerned aboutthe side-firing woofer given the open side of the room near the speakers. Right now I deal with it with a little toe-in, an dthe seems to do the trick.

Bruce,
You really need to consider the MFS's but then you would need to invest into your front end.
If you are convinced you can get Living Voice to work with your Naim then go for it and let us know how they sound.

NB,
Not at all convinced about the LV, that's why I posed the question! I'm not really interested in a wholesale system upgrade for the time being (although I came close to making a mjor impulsive change recently!).
I was toying around with the idea of Neat Elites plus a REL sub, but decided that all the tweaky integration stuff would drive me crazy.
My favorite so far was Meadowlark Osprey, but they failed the WAF-living room test.

Bec,
Give the Neats a go. You won't know until you have tried them at home.
My Neats fill my living room with music from about 7pm on the pre-amp and the room measures about 40foot by 14 foot.

Not on my pre-amp its not!
I have been surprised at how easily the Neats have filled such a large room. Just wait until that second 300 appears!

In my Naim past I brought a 250 from Kevin at Definitive Audio, the dealers/ makers of Living Voice.
It was a p/x taken in for seme valve amps sold to go with some LV speakers. There is a thought that the LV range work better with valves than transistors it seems.
Anyway, in true dealer fashion, he tried to educate me into buying LV speakers and not the Naim. They do have the rhythm aspects high on the priority list.
I never did take up Kevin's offer for a dem of the LV speakers, as I thought I knew best, and would rather have a power amp than more speakers.
Anyway, they always seem to get a good write up?

Bruce,
Don't let the (well meaning) nay-sayers put you off. The LVs can partner very well with name. Without a doubt, the Neat MFS are amazing speakers. Indeed, they were on my final shortlist along with the OBX-Rs and Shahinian Obelisks (sigh, great speakers, just don't have the power amp to drive them properly! although I currently in NY and the dollar is weak -- perhaps I could stock-pile). The OBX-Rs just delivered more of what I was looking for. Try the Auditoriums at home and see.
