A broadening of tastes

Posted by: Steve Toy on 15 April 2002

I have recently come by a copy of Alanis Morisette's latest album under rug swept .

Normally, I wouldn't touch this kind of stuff with a pole, but it is brilliant - especially the last track Utopia.

She has an excellent voice, the acoustic guitar work is very tuneful, and the bass isn't overblown.

I think I'll get me some more Alanis...

Regards,

Steve.

I am certainly more interested in hearing a broader range of musical styles now.

You often have to choose between the big grins or the dewy eyes...

I get both! big grin roll eyes

razz

Big grins

Nightfly by Donald Fagen.

100% Columbian by the Fun Loving Criminals.

Dewy eyes

The Dust Bowl Symphony by Nanci Griffith and The London Symphony Orchestra.

Steve.

All three of her albums have something to offer - I think the second is her best so far, but the new one has some great playing and songs and, as usual, sounds very good indeed.

The only criticism is that some of her stuff can sound 'too Alanis' (ie samey) but if you like her voice and politics then she's worth a listen.

It'd be hell to be her lover though - you'd be sure to be on the next abum.

Indeed! Gorgeous as she is! big grin

Steve,

Glad to see you over here. I've just taken a punt on a Mylene Farmer CD. I'm sure Nick will be doubly worried, what with Waiting for Columbus in the post. big grin

The Nightfly is a great album. I you haven't got his Karmakiriad album, then get it! Karmakiriad is even better than The Nightfly (IMHO)

Jagged Little Pill is the best IMHO but Ani Di Franco gives Alanis a golden shower.

I think he needs to change the tracking force on his tonearm before he goes on holiday.

That record is definitely stuck! big grin

"No, I don't think so. This Wensleydale is simply the best. Don't you think Gromit?"

Whatever you do, avoid the UK LP pressing of "Supposed...Junkie". A poorer master hasn't been heard since Oasis' "What's the Story...".

I don't mind her latest, it's quite inventive. I'm not a fan, but one my friends is bloody obsessed for some reason. He's uploaded "Under Rug Swept" onto his Xbox; I'm forced to listen to it while playing games!

That says it all, really...I can't imagine shoot-em-ups without Ministry or Nine Inch Nails castouts generating the soundtrack--I'd rather till flowerbeds on the front concourse instead...

I Think whingers are really a huge problem
I Think pomposities are too much on my mind
I Think obsessions have got a lot to do with why the world sucks
But what can you do?

Like a black rain, beating down on me
Like a Ernie Wise line, which won't let go of my brain
Like Steven Toy's ass, it is in my head
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk

I Think metal racks are gonna drive us all crazy
And boy banders make me feel like a child
I Think unpleasantries will eventually be the downfall of civilization
But what can you do? I said what can you do?

Like a black rain, beating down on me
Like a Ernie Wise line, which won't let go of my brain
Like Steven Toy's ass, it is in my head
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk

Like a black rain, beating down on me
Like Steven Toy's smile, cruel and cold
Like Ernie Wise's ass, it is in my head
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk
Blame it on Vuk
