CD3 onnits way out?

Hello
My CD3 seems to take longer (often several seconds) to register discs recently and has 4 or 5 times not registered them at all (ERR)
Is this the early signs of the legendaryly irreplaceable transport giving up the ghost? I've had it 18 months and the prvious owner had it for 4 to 5 years. Surely the time span of any CD player should be longer than this?
Any experience or advice on this would be gratefully received.
