My recent 10 year British Passport required (specifically NO Digital photo) makes yer wonder dunnit ? Mind you Yankee firms will get the UK multi Billion Dollar ID card contract ewentually, so that's allright then innit.

Fritz Von I wonder if everybody should just stay at home instead Cool

I wonder how they can tell a digital photo from an analogue one. And would a film-origib photo, scanned digitally count as digital? It's all bollocks.

A bit like my typing. Must get a spell checker.

Chaps

I visited America (California) last year and had a jolly good time. I also spent a small fortune whilst out there and did my small bit in helping to prop up their tourist industry.

However, I shall never step foot over there again until the immigration officials stop treating every tourist like a potential terrorist.

I respect the need for security but it can be done politely and some of those officials forgot how to speak, they could only shout and after spending 8 hours in an aircraft, I do not expect some numskull to scream at us to wait here or go there etc.

Those numbskulls let America down badly.

Regards

Mick

My new British passport (2 months old) contains a digital photo that was taken, doctored and printed by me. Maybe think they mean you can't email a jpeg or whatever to them.

It clearly states on the form no digital photos Our Sean, when I had mine done at the shop, I had to specifically emphasise the fact (bloody dear too) otherwise I would have got you to do them on your new brownie woolworth thingy for nowt, innit.

My last passport photo was taken in one of the digital photo booths (which had a big notice on the booth saying the photos were acceptable for use in a passport)

The passport office put the image in the new passport - not by sticking the photo onto the page but by scanning it and printing it afresh onto the data page of the passport.

Mick - sometimes I think that you attract agro by your attitude - I have been to the US three times in the last 13 months and was treated very pleasantly by immigration and customs.

The worse exit experience was at Dulles recently where there was a long walk from checkin to the TSA security area - but once one had found where one was going, the TSA staff were pleasant, polite and business like. The airport is significantly rebuilding the departure area to handle the post 9/11 environment.

There again; since when have the FCO known their arses from their elbows anyway ? they're a bloody joke when you really need them on the road as it were, in mine & many acquantances experiences of the past, there again one young person did recently claim that the sun shone out of their preverbials, but maybe she had a reason, innit !!!

Fritz Von Mick Old Chap, Maybe you should refrain from wearing your favourite T-shirt when hitting US Customs!!! I hardly Think " Rumsfeld is a Toerag" could be considered Diplomatically inspiring, even if it does happen to be true, innit Big Grin

Mick Parry has a valid point - I regularly visit the States and after passing through US customs (up to 3 hours queing) I always feel wound up and feel like saying to the customs official "welcome to the f****** USA" 'coz that's how it feels.

As Mick says, a few politeness lessons would be appreciated.

Going into Australia is a TOTALLY different experience - I've always been greeted with a smile and "good morning" or "how was your flight" or similar, follwed by "enjoy your stay". (well, OK, not EVERY time but most)

My worst experiences have been in my good old City of birth, Jolly old London Town, where they usually ask me nervously.

"You're not staying long are you Sir ?" Roll Eyes
