Whirring Fans

Here's a strange thing. I dropped my 82 off for a service the other day and replaced it with an old 32.5 I have in a second system.
Now whenever I turn up the wick, after a while the fans on my 135's cut in. Nothing to worry about - they always used to do just that when the 32.5 was in the main system. I guess I just didn't notice them not coming on with the 82 driving, if you get my drift.
My question is why with one pre and not the other? Doesn't happen with the LP12, just the CDS-II. And all the 135's and the 32.5 have been serviced since 1998.
Most bizarre.
