Naim Phono

What is the best sounding phono stage from Naim?
Could one of you kind experts list them in order of sound quality.
I have a Linn Sondek with Troika cartridge in an Ekos arm. I have a 52 pre-amp with a standard Naim 'K' mc board.

Question about Prefix:
Does the Prefix come with all of the necessary connecting wires, i.e. the leads to connect to the tonearm and the lead from the Prefix to the preamp?
I'm asking as I could justify adding a Prefix to my LP12 if it liberated the Aro tonearm cable (which could then become an interconnect with suitable termination)

Second question, if you don't mind...
If I had a choice of two phono boards (a K and an S) which one would be the better choice for a Lyra Helikon? The preamp is a 52.

IMHO the K boards/prefix outperform the S boards/prefix (with a helikon, which I use)
PS if you use aprefix, don`t forget to "pull" the preamp`s phono boards

Thanks...
Knowing I can 'release' the current Aro tonearm cable makes the purchase of a Prefix all the more attractive...

Laurie,
Did you try both models of prefix with your cart before you bought? Having a Helicon myself with an S type prefix it would be interesting to hear what someone elses experiences were using it with a 'K' type.

Sean, I remember reading that the K was slightly overloaded with standard Helikon but a perfect match with the Helikon SL. Do a forum search. I have no first hand experience with the Helikon but have compared the new spec K to the S with the Dynavector XX2 and prefered the S. The highs and mids were very similar but K sucked the weight out of the bass.

Is the k board ideal for the Troika cartridge,or should I try the s board?
Cheers Robert

I have no experience outside of the XX2. I suggest contacting Naim for their opinion. Richard Dane has always been very helpful. Also ask other Troika users what the best match is.

I have now tried both K and S boards with my 52 (last night as it happens), and in balance it's a tough call (there's not a great deal to choose between). I'd say that the S boards are a little quieter, whilst the K boards are a bit more musical. Also, going against what t'other John said above, I'd say that the K boards have more heft to the bass.
A moot comparison as the likelihood is that I'll be going for a Prefix anyway, so both sets of boards will be for sale soon...

Its an impedence issue when matching the K and S with cartridges. Different cartridges will provide different results. The S is not a filtered K and the K is not a better board. It might sound that way if your cartridge is a perfect match with K but the conclusion is wrong.
