Uniti, Foobar and Youtube

Posted by: phk on 09 August 2010

Hello,

Following some suggestions on the forum, I switched recently from Windows Media Player to Foobar200, and I am very satisfied. The beginning was a little difficult, but foobar is impressively powerful.

If I play something on my computer with foobar, the sound can go directly to the Uniti.

On foobar, I can go to a internet location and open the file.

However,if I open a Youtube location, I cannot read it directly on foobar because I was not able to find how to play FLV files on foobar.

Does someone know how to read a FLV stream directly on foobar ? There must be a component for this ?

This would enable mo to directly send the sound of a youtube file to the Uniti, without using special materials.

Thanks in avance.

AFAIK thereis nocomponent for flv or youtube

Foobar is an audioplayer and not a general mediaplayer, so it is not able to handle video. FLV-files were sometimes playable when the extension was changed to mp4 and only when audio was coded with certain codecs.

Youtube audio is also a very low quality audio, I think better audio can be found on Spotify.

phk: I use a Sony PS3 which allows connection to www and accessibility to Youtube. Route digital out (Toslink) from Sony to Uniti. Alternatively, use HDMI to TV and TV audio out (analog) to Uniti.

Thanks for the replies. I give a few precisions : I do not have any PS and any TV and don't plan to invest in any : my goal with youtube is not to SEE videos, but to LISTEN to them ; I can find there music from little known composers which I do not find anywhere else. The quality is indeed not very good, but I think it will improve with time, and it allows me to discover much. My goal is not to convert FLV files (I know how to convert them and then foobar is able to read their soundtrack), but to stream them with no downloading.
Thanks fo the ideas.
