Urgent--Need Guaranteed Floor-filler recommendations

Posted by: Markus on 25 July 2002

Hey Buds,

I've got to put together some dance music for my Mom's 80th birthday and seriously need your top dance recommendations. Please don't recommend anything too obscure--I've got to be able to find it! Nor anything too off the wall. I do expect to use a fair bit of Stax/Volt R'n'B, whatever Northern Soul I can find, some funk, disco, whatever...

So, Your recommendations would be appreciated!!!!

You could try this, it sounds like one long party at the beach - might get your Mum strutting her funk.

Hi,

I found this the other day. It's a bit older school, not quite your mums school but good netherless.
It's Mastercuts Bar Social Vol.1. The tracks on it are:

1. Sincere (Re-cued) - MJ Cole
2. Alabama blues (Todd Edwards Vocal mix) - St. Germain
3. Finally (DJ Meri Vox mix) - Kings Of Tomorrow
4. Don't stop the music (Original mix) - Yarborough and Peoples
5. Witness (1 hope) (Album version) - Roots Manuva
6. Runnin' (Album mix) - The Pharcyde
7. The Truth (feat. Roisin and J-Live) - Handsome Boy Modelling School
8. Baby I love you so (Original mix) - Colourbox
9. Uptown top rankin (Album version) - Althea & Donna
10. Little samba (Extended version) - Ugly Duckling
11. Roller skating jam named Saturday (Album version) - De La Soul
12. Last night a DJ saved my life (Original mix) - In Deep

Disc: 2
1. I am the black gold of the sun (4 Hero mix) - Nu Yorican Soul
2. Running away - Roy Ayers
3. I'm the baddest bitch (Moodyman Main mix) - Norma Jean
4. It's yours (Original Distant Music mix) - Jon Cutler feat. E-Man
5. Contact (Extended version) - Edwin Starr
6. Release the pressure (Album version) - Leftfield
7. Your love - Frankie Knuckles
8. Mighty hard rocker (Album mix) - Cash Money & Marvellous
9. The message (Full Length version) - Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five
10. Pull up to the bumper (Original mix) - Grace Jones

The second CD gets my vote, there are some real gems on there. The Nu-Yorican Soul track really rocks, just wait until the bass kicks in.

It's an excellent 4 CDbox set containing a superb mix of old Motown,R'n'B,ska and all things 60's Moddish - guaranteed to get those toes tapping - and an excellent addition for your music library as well.Another good comp. would be the Blow Up series- Particularly 'Blow up a-gogo'
Other floor fillers I'd recommend would be:
25 Miles - Edwin Starr
The Snake - Al Wilson
Ghost in my house - R. D taylor
Love potion No.9 - The Coasters
The Right Track - Billy Butler
Rubberneckin' - Elvis
Higher & Higher - Jackie Wilson
brown eyed girl -Van morrison
Have fun!
