Axent centre
Posted by: SC on 26 March 2010
Does anyone know if the Axent centre speaker can be fixed to the wall in a similar manner to the current n-CENT..?
I know there was supposed to be the Axent Fraim, but I think there's only a few of these in existence..?
Anybody have a picture of the rear of the Axent ?
And finally....Is it really much better than a n-CENT ?
Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve
Here you go (only part of it I'm afraid)

The Axent weighs 27.4 kg and projects 440mm the n-Cent only weighs 10 kg and only projects 300mm I would go for a quality wide turntable wall mounted shelf like the one on page 15 & 16 of this brochure http://www.finite-elemente.de/...rn/gesamtkatalog.pdf

The Axess Center significsntly excels over the n-Cent. I had One for à while and am currently looking again for one. Of anybody has a hint for me ...

Many thanks chaps.
Thanks for the pic and pointer to the support shelf Stuart....Yes, I was hoping to see the complete rear of the Axent (but nice shot of the plugs! ) to try and judge how/if I could fashion some sort of wall attachment...
30kg !
lawoftrust - it was the Axent I was interested in, not the Axess, which I believe the Axent was a considerable step up from....I have the n-Cent already, so if I were to change I may as well take a further jump than what the Axess would probably provide....

Hi Steve. I was originally going to get the Axent but my then Naim dealer, Rayleigh Hi-Fi, felt it would be unbalanced with my SBLs so I got the Axess instead. This replaced a top-of-the range Kef centre, and was better by a country mile!
Later on I did consider an Axent, but they are a seriously large speaker when you see one in the flesh! I couldn't accommodate it so it wasn't an option in the end.
Good luck on finding an Axent - they're as rare as rocking-horse poo.
Incidentally, I've got my Axess mounted on its edge & it works fine. I suppose you know these speakers are designed to sit on spikes? They've got four pads built in for the purpose.

Ah my man Tony - Actually, I thought you had the Axent for some reason !
Yes, I haven't seen one in the flesh, so it may be a shock - especially compared to the n-CENT !
I knew they could be spiked, although aesthetically I would like to try and wall mount....I've seen yours on its side - is that your invention or is it an official alternative to the underside mounts ?
I might have found some rocking horse poo it seems.. ...hence the questions...just trying to judge whether it's worth my attention....
Cheers, Steve.

The side-mounting was the dealer's suggestion - the Axess sits back into my fireplace, which is handy because it's bloody deep - about 45cm. I think the Axent's a wee bit shallower for some reason.
I'm sure this depth improves sound quality but with flatscreen TVs it's a real downside to both designs.

Chase 'Em into the wall...!

If you must put the Axent on a wall how about using a couple of Very strong 'L' brackets rather than a shelf, bearing in mind the 27kg weight these would need to be fitted with rawbolts to a solid wall not normal little screws. It does not have any fixing holes or anything on the speaker only 4 rubber feet on the bottom. One other thing to bear in mind is if the speaker is not secure and falls the damage it will cause it is 920mm wide and awkward to handle.

Thanks Trevor and Allen...
I'm sure I could sort suitable wall fixings if I went that way....The Pioneer screen is on its dedicated bracket, so what's another 27Kg...!!
If the Axent has rubber pads/spike fixing on its base, what about on the floor..? Although I guess this would have the drivers a bit low....
Anyway, s'pose I should get a tape measure out - see what we're talking...

Hi Steve
I have the n-Cent on the n-Bracket powered by a NAP135 with active NBLs and was considering upgrading to the Axent to match up with the latter as both have the 19mm Scanspeak D2010 tweeter and the 130mm bass/mid drivers are almost identical. Whilst hunting around I was sent some pictures of an AXENT and that was the only one of the rear. Having since seen the size of the beast (940mm wide) which is basically the Axess with 2 boxes added on one on each end to accommodate 2 additional 130mm bass/mid driver units I decided to go with the Axess (only 536mm wide) but with the same tweeter and only 2 of the bass/mid range drivers instead of 4 but only weighing in at 16.6kg instead of 27.4kg. I have just purchased one but have yet to work out how to support it hence the reference to the TT shelf brochure because it is still pretty heavy and projects the same as the Axent.
Here are some pics of the front of an Axent to illustate my point you can clearly see the join between the Axess and the bolt on end boxes without the cover on.

Out of interest, I assume you would be using it with a rather large projector screen?
Posted on: 27 March 2010 by SC
Who me ? Nah...Pioneer 50".
Thanks Stuart....It certainly is a beast hey ! It may be slight overkill for the room I have, I'll have to have a look-see....I see what you mean about the 'attached sides' - which is highlighted even more on those particular pictures by the veneer work - quite poor by normal Naim standards....
I guess in it's day, if you could accommodate the Dibbles, the Axent wasn't much of a sweat...

Hi Steve
I've had my Axess in situ and set up for a week now and have simply added another Fraim shelf above my AV2 and it supports it perfectly. When I first set it up I tested it with Porcupine Tree's live DVD Arriving Somewhere with the NAC52 at 12 o'clock and the AV2 at 70 and it didn't budge a micro millimetre. I put my hand on top of it and felt no vibration at all like with my active NBLs.
So I won't be bothering with a wall mounted shelf after all.
Kind Regards
Stuart
