DVD5 RGB Connection...

hi
My dealer has very kindly lent me a dvd5 for home demo over the weekend. I am having trouble (i think) with assigning the video outputs.
At the moment i have a 2yr old Panasoinc 32crt with RGB input on av1. Having programmed the dvd5 to output rgb via scart whenever i exit the set up menu i loose the picture. I do, however get the picture if i switch the s-video output on which is not rgb. ive read all the manuals and various settinga but still no joy. I will be upgrading to plasma in the near future but ive just blown my budget on the dvd player!!!! Any suggestions would be very much appriciated as i got to give it back on tuesday.
Thanks V Much!

hi trevor
i have to say it seems very strange but then i suppose anyone spending this sort of money would have a plasma so in which case you would use dvi/hdmi outputs. Even so i would have thought the same reason would apply to a basic rgb connection thru scart. Not eveyone (incl myself) is still convinced on plasmas. I dunno maybe im in the minority.

The DVD5 should do a very decent RGB from its SCART socket - I use this.
Don't try RGB from the BNC sockets into a SCART input on a TV though - unless you have a TV that will accept a progressive scan signal through this input (rare).

In the setup menu the scart settings are on RGB but it is sill in s-video and the picture is quite poor.
I am using an Ixos scart to scart which i tried on my sky+box and that was doing RGB so the cable is ok.Is there anything else i can try?

im with you trevor. i have exactley the same set up. As we seem to be the only 2 here with the problem im wondering if it may be a software glitch?

Just a quick thought, have you programmed the RGB output to be composite or component via the scart?
As Adam mentioned above, if you have this done incorrectly you will lose the picture as you have. I would try putting the setting to RGB composite via the scart & try that. If this is already what you have set, then I would speak with the dealer on tuesday & explain the problem, no doubt he will allow a few extra days viewing.
The results are very well worth the effort.

Thnks for you reply steve.
just stopping short of taking it apart and wiring it myself i have tried everything!!!
I have already got one on order with my dealer (who is also an old school chum), but i hounded him enough to let me borrow the dem one so that i could see what it was like in my current set up. Me being impatient i guess. I am returning it to him at home monday night so i will explain it to him then. Here's to mine arriving in the next week (or so probably) and it working ok!

Well, having recently taken delivery of my DVD5 i tried the rgb via scart but alas no luck. if i set the scart output to composite then it is fine but it still aint RGB. i give up, albeit a bit dissapointed...

hi HT
my tv has auto switching so it switches to rgb automatically when it recives an rgb signal through scart.
But, now you come to mention it ... no.. my scart is rgb only qed ref squart. however it does do the switching etc with my sky box so i dont think its the cable.. but then im not very technical. I know the basics but thats about it!!!!!!!

HT,
My sky digi box did not output RGB till I forced it to by a change on the output menu. The tv now says AV1 RGB everytime we switch to sky. Before the change in the menu it just went to plain old AV1, no RGB.

We are looking into this. I have been trying to establish if there are any simple connection errors that might account for this.
I have downloaded the TV manual and contacted QED about the pin connections for the RGB SCART lead and seeing if, at a distance, it is possible to sort this out for you.
If there is nothing in the system's configuration which is preventing this we may have an alternative solution.
I will be in touch by e-mail.

NiceGuy,
Did Naim resolve this issue finally. I have posted a similar problem I encountered with connecting DVD5 through SCART into an external scaler. Would be interested to learn from your experience.
Thanks
