Evora

lotus of course
Dan Neil in the LA Times wrote the words, "I want one. Alot" even stated he's going to buy one because it was a dream to drive. Tho finish on it is rough and preproduction problems can be worked out, he's putting his money on the line. Now I wonder what color? pic was a metallic blue

I've had a good look at one in the showroom recently (whilst my Elise was getting fixed) and it is very lovely. Compact and quite subtle. The subjective build quality is way above my car - and that is really pretty good if you discount the major fault I've just had on the (Toyota) engine!
I would still want to think very carefully about a Cayman at that price though. Indeed a properly specced Evora is nearly 911 prices. Having said that the Evora has had high praise in the Uk with the press sych as Evo and Car magazine raving about it.
I do like my Elise. Evora too soft for me!

Always wanted a LOTUS but everyone that I know who has owned one has always had reliability problems. Pity that.

That reputation goes back a long time, check out the SELOC forum for a more accurate picture. The Elise is pretty easy to look after and the early ones are one of the few motors that are going up in value. They are cheap as chips to get serviced and upgraded too, with sensible mpg and a drive that is the most fun you can have with your clothes on - what's not to like? Get one. You know you want to.

I waited longer than I should have done with idiot practical considerations, should have got one years ago.

Poor old Lotus, I wonder how many more decades the reputation for unreliable cars will haunt them? By my reckoning it's thirty years out of date.
My trusty Elise did about 20K miles in my sweaty little hands with no faults at all. A great drive, huge fun to be had!
As Joe points out they're also pretty cheap to own & run. Hell, even our cat loved it!

Wow, getting to own and drive an Elise over country roads in England? Can I come over for a thrill ride?
I see them around SoCal and my heart goes pitty pat. I like them in outrageous colors.
Any other pics?

Stu,
Total quality respect, the Esprit is the dogs b******s. What a dreat car. Had a afternoon at Brooklands in November trying to get an AMG to leave the track without success cos the computers don'y allow it. The Esprit however allows good drivers to have a great time. bet the 17 year old was sheepish and they blamed the car and not their inability behind the wheel.

I always found the stereo a bit superfluous in mine!
Nice colour Bruce.

Where's the stereo?

Posted on: 31 January 2010 by tonym
Mine had a very "Hi-Tech" (for the time) anti-theft panel over the stereo which you had to press in a certain way, then it'd slide spookily up to reveal itself.
Trouble was, I couldn't often remember the certain way.

Here's one you could easily get in and out of Stuart

A very practical family hatchback. Registered in 1981 and brought by me in 1983....... yes, 27 years ago! Reliability......She's always got me home.
I know some Lotus owners might not approve, but she's a great little car IMHO.

In a car like that the drive and the exhaust and engine sounds would be better than any rock group, enjoy the ecstasy. I envy you I'll just punch my Focus next time to wind it out and fantasize.

70,000 miles and one elective re-build at 50K as the mods being considered made it a prudent move IMHO.
Yes it's the 2.2
No Delorto 40s though.... a necessary change to make the old girl a little friendlier to drive in town and traffic etc. Needless to say, the handling and brakes were attended too as well. Driving the country roads near where I live it's hilarious fun.

I do

My next door neighbour brought an Aston last year and spent most of his spare time during the summer and weekends licking it clean

Whilst she might not have the prettiest automotive rear I've seen, there's also not much to give away what's lurking up front and under the bonnet

I must say though, if I had the money to spend on some more fun, the Evora would be at the top of my wish list. - Maybe one day........

Coming back to the original subject, I saw an Evora the other day. One downside, at first glance I thought it was a Tesla.
