Naim DA. Voltage

Did I read correctly from that the naim dac supports both 100-120 and 220-240v?

If so it'd be a welcoming change

I don't think so.

One or the other right??????

Always been a little bit confusing. Naim is avaliable in either voltage, and that is what the specs say, but they don't switch on the fly. They can be converted back and forth without much hassle or cost, though.

Anyone want to start a debate about whether the 240V units sound better/worse than the 110V units?

Is there anywhere in the world where this could be done with commercial consumer grade mains electricity of both 110 and 220 volts in a blind test in one single room?

Otherwise the point is probably moot!

Suggestion and failed memory will have a big impact on the reliability of the results.

I kind of agree George. Hard to do a comparison. Here in Canada, you can apparently access a phase-inverted 110V signal that you can add to the other line to give a line-to-line symmetric 220V. Not sure how this would work with 220V hifi gear, though.

It's not obvious to me which voltage would be better, if either. There are likely much more important variables like RFI interference and stability.

Would that be legal in a domestic home!

I believe it is legal. Obviously needs to be set up by qualified and authorised personnel.

Yup, the final listening room next to "Goods Out" at Naim. This is where every piece is plugged-in and listened to before being cleaned, wrapped and packed. Obviously it caters for both 230V and 115V (and 100V too). For obvious reasons, the factory has to be multi-voltage throughout final production, test, service and R&D.

Confirmed that the Naim DAC is not switchable between 100-120 to 200-220

AFAIK, you need different transformers for the different voltages.

Switched mode power supplies, on the other hand, can be set at the flick of a switch - a definite advantage, if only they sounded as good...
