Trade Description on the Internet
Posted by: David McN on 26 April 2005
Can any one advise me please? I ordered a book on the internet from
http://www.countrybookshop.co.uk/ the information on their web site clearly stated that the book would be posted in one or two days. When the book did not turn up I contacted them to find out why. It became clear that the book was not in stock and had to be ordered from their supplier. I suspect that this practice is probably not uncommon with online sales (it has happened to me before with other goods). Has anyone else come across this practice and is it a false trade description?
Thanks, David

the simple solution is to exercise your right to change your mind, get a refund and buy elsewhere.

I personally go to a local bookshop, they oder it on the net, tell me the price & waiting time etc, they ring me when it's there, I pick it up and pay, most complicated really, and usually ever so slightly dearer than risking your own financial details online, innit.

You don't post a link to the particular book, but most of the ones I glanced at seem to say 'usually dispatched within 1 to 2 working days'. That's not the same as 'will be posted in one or two days'.
Most of the online stores I used tend to be fairly accurate with their estimates, but if they've let you down there's plenty of other places to buy books online.
Have to say though, it does seem a little like a mountain and a molehill.

Surely just like our Gordon, he does with it as he pleases. Except, of course, it isn't his money

Fritz, I wish I knew what you were talking about half the time (or even a quarter of the time)

John
The time for you to become worried is when he starts making sense to you.
Just be grateful that like the rest of us, you don't have a clue what he is on about.
Regards
Mick

That's why it says "First Lord of the Treasury' on No 10's letter Box, and not Number 11's, as I'm sure you're all no doubt aware, innit !
