NAP110 ==> NAP140?

Does anyone no if I can get my old 110 upgraded to a 140. How much would it cost? Have anybody any experience from doing this?

It Kan be done!

Some 110s can be converted to 140s. However, I'm not sure that Naim still does this, and I believe it costs more than buying another used 140 and having it recapped.

BTW, you'll find very little difference in performance between a 110 and a 140, and you're better off upgrading the source or pre-amp.

I've heard Naim still do the mod (something I may consider) including a re-cap for around £160. Bargain!

Just had a very old 110 (18 years) re-capped and 140'd for around £200 including shipping. I'll see if I've got the paperwork still, but AFAIK the 140 mod was around £90.

I prefer a 110 to a 140

Exactly the same amp circuit board in exactly the same case. The only difference is an uprated power supply. So what doesn't the 140 do that the 110 does do for you Alex? Just askin' smile

I have lived happily for years with 32.5/Hi-Cap/110 I think there is synergy here that a 140 does not improve. To my mind the 140 has a slight edge/harshness when compared to a 110 in this set up. I admit that I have only listened to a 140 in this context.

My main system recently went through some amp changes 90 -> 110 -> 140 and each of those steps gave immediate and worthwhile benefits in my system (currently 3.5/92R/SNAPS/140/Credos). Changing the 90 to the 110 gave more benefits than 110 to 140 though. I'm considering getting the ancient 110 serviced and upgraded to a 140, mainly to give me the chance to play with active amplification for little cost.

I also marginally preferred the 92R to a 32.5 which seems to go against conventional though on here (but may just indicate that my 32.5 needs serviced). I've also recently got a 22 which I've yet to try in this system - sounded rather nice in my bedroom system though (usually Micromega CD/Meridian DAC/32.5/110/Mission 731LE).
