Error correction

Can someone help me with error correction on itunes? I was advised that it should be off, so I have ripped a number of cd's to apple lossless with it off. The general advice on this forum though is for error correction to be on. I presume that unless i have already ripped a problem disc I don't need to re-rip the stuff i have done already? or is there something subtle going on that would suggest there would be a benefit of re-ripping? I'm only using a mac mini and a dacmagic at the moment but have intentions of going to ndac and a more serious frontend later so want to make sure i am making the best quality ripped library that I can.

Use error correction on - better to have interpolated data than no data.

As you are on a mac you may want to investigate Rip from sbooth.org for future archive ripping, it checks a third party (accuraterip.com) database to ensure each sector of each rip is as accurate as possible and it also corrects for individual cd drive sampling offsets.
It does take a very long time to rip though (.5-1x speed it seems), which is equally reassuring and annoying.

I mentioned in your other thread, the program xACT, which you can use to rip CDs and optionally convert to flac. This uses CD Paranoia, which although not as "extreme" as the approach of rip/accuraterip.com, does, I believe, read each sector of the disc several times in order to detect read errors.
