Nat02

Where's it gone?! Can't see any mention of it in any price lists anywhere - is this still available?

NAT01 and NAT02 have been discontinued.

Fingers crossed that Naim make a NAT501 and that it will be affordable.

Nick

Are U a secret Naim employee?

There is a plan to build a replacement tuner at the start of next year. The Nat 01/02's were discontinued due to a shortage of some key components. Sad really.

Doug,

Do Naim have a stock of these components for repairs to 01s and 02s?

David
Posted on: 03 July 2002 by Doug Graham
David

Part of the reason that we don't build 01/02's is that we need the parts to maintain existing ones.

I'd just decided to take the plunge and buy one as well! If I get hold of one will I be able to get it repaired into the forseeable future?
Posted on: 03 July 2002 by rch
Christopher

sorry for you, but try to get one anyway, 'cause the 02 sounds really superb

Doug

please make sure to store enough of those basic parts, 'cause my 02 is less than two years old and after I read these bad news I will keep it
for lots of years

Cheers

Nick,

If you've had the NAT02 for 13 years, it's probably worth sending back for a service.

Doug,

Elvis Costello ??

Team

Sounds good to me.

My guess would be Elvis Costello, in reality, is an undercover Naim employee, and D.G. was wondering whether you were, too. This is a very sophisticated organization. Guys working there with fedoras shading their eyes, no one knows what they're really up to.

Twas a pop quiz.

RADIO RADIO. A very fine tune!

And Richard. I can't be more straight about 01/02. We don't have anymore except bits for maintaining those consumed by your goodselves.

I too have a fairly old (I bought it 2nd hand in 1996) 02, and I'm pleased with the sound (though it's not quite as good as CD/LP, which is fair enough at the price!). However, how much better is an 01 and is it worth trying to buy/sell 2nd hand to upgrade? What are recent prices if so?

Along with (or incorporated into) a new top-range tuner, could Naim finally do what no hifi manufacturer has had the nerve, resources or intelligence to do for 40 years - provide a VCR-style long-play-record tuner/timer/recorder?

At the moment, if you wish to record on audiophile equipment, you're limited to the length of a cassette, CDR, or DAT. How about biting the bullet and giving us a one-box solution - state-of-the-art tuner, hard-disk based audiophile 5-hour+ recorder with own timer?

Chris

For extended record time and the convenience of timer recording, it has been known for people to use their VCR to record from Tuner. This gives a very reasonable playback quality. Allegedly.

Doug,

Without being a secret employee: For the same reason the CD 2 has been discontinued in 1998, right? So please make sure to keep those components too, 'cause I love my CD 2 and never would change it for a CDX.

RCH

Been out of the loop for a while, hence no response to your post.

CD2 stuff is ok. We can keep them going for a good while yet.

Replace the 82, replace the 180 by the 200, and eventually by the CDX and you have the big brother line-up to match the 5 Series. Fall? Springtime? Worth the wait?

Chris,

there was recently a thread that Naim are looking into hard disk recorders.

With a suitable A-to-D you could get days of continuous recording.

cheers, Martin

In case there's anybody out there who's really eager to get hold of one of the last NAT01 (+PSU), there's an unused ex dem for sale in Germany, for € 3345.

The e-mail is cmeyer@soundvisionfidelity.de

Gees, isn't ex-dem stuff meant to sell for less than the list price? List on a nat01 is (was) £1945... €3345 is about £2200. Real bargain that one.
