Songwriters' Circle on BBC4
Posted by: DenisA on 10 October 2010
Songwriters' Circle on BBC4Filmed at London's intimate Bush Hall before a small audience, a series of 4 concerts has already commenced. I have seen the first 2 and they are fabulous and the following shows should be equally rewarding. This is what Series link was made for, especially when music shows are this good.
The lineup was/is...
Programme 1: Richard Thompson, Suzanne Vega and Loudon Wainwright III (
See iPlayer for details) Note: 19 days remaining
Programme 2: Justin Currie, Chris Difford and Boo Hewerdine (
See iPlayer for details)
Programme 3: Joe Ely, John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett - BBC4 October 15th, 2010 at 10:00pm
Programme 4: David Gray, KT Tunstall, Ray LaMontagne - BBC 4 October 22nd, 2010 at 10:30pm

Alas, iPlayer not available here.
Essentially saw Programme 3 live in a medium-sized theatre several years ago, as it was Joe, John, Lyle and also Guy Clark. If your programme is anything like that show, highly recommended.

Saw the 2nd one, I always like Squeeze & Boo. From the tv show, I was suprised at how much I liked Justin Curries performance. His voice & emotion came over really well.
Might have to take another listen to the Del Amitri stuff, which is not something I thought I'd find myself saying!
Matt.

Hi Dennis,
I caught this on Friday night and then watched it again on iPlayer to get the song titles (and buy some CD's). I thought the combination of all 3 was superb. I found some Boo Hewerdine live on Spotify and ordered this one.

James,
I had never heard of Boo before Friday night and enjoyed his own compositions. I will investigate Chris Difford's work also, especially as his collaboarations with Boo were very good.
I bought this...

Matt,
I liked Justin Currie as well. He certainly touched a nerve with Chris Difford when one of his songs brought tears to his eyes. Another artist to follow up for me also.
BTW - Jeff Anderson has been the only poster I remember playing Justin's work on here. If there are others I'll go to Specsavers

Appologies DeNis

Now if some enterprising soul would release a CD of the sessions (or a 24/96 version

) then that would be great.
