Ash Stands
Posted by: Ade Archer on 07 February 2001
The last thing I want to do is start another stand debate, so all I'm asking is does anyone else use Ash Design stands, as I recently obtained a 5 tier rack second hand, which I'm very happy with.
I don't recall them getting a mention here since I've been using the forum.
Ade
I use an Ash stand, and as previously pointed out by Paul Stephenson does Doug Graham and Mark Tucker.
Reasons... I have heard the major 'competition' and for me the Ash stand met all my requirements - great build, good design and 'complementary' sound quality for my naim equipment.

If it's good enough for Naim staff, well, I think it will probably be good enough for me.

Whenever I come across anything to do with hi-fi
described as 'sexy' I just shake my head in wonder at the rubbish marketing/advertising people come out with.
Brian
Just because they aren't hyped like certain other brands doesn't mean they aren't good.
Pleased to hear that they have found favour in naim 'officialdom'
Hey Ade - Welcome to the revolutionaries!

Exactly!

In aesthetic terms, this is one of the most attractive stands around. However, to have enough faith, you have to be able to "buy" the company, and believe in them. Having a site like that only tells me that they want to sell me something – the benefits to me are resolutely unclear.
Shame.

Nice tables too.

I have to admit I like the look of your Mana rack more than the Ash. This from someone who prefers wood to metal supports.
BTW I repeat, saying that any piece of hi-fi gear is sexy is just bollocks. However, when you put that chunk of vinyl on it......

"but I still don't think it's nice of you to discount the experience of others"
Hang on, are you not doing this yourself!!!
You find it easy to take a pop at the website, and lack the money back policy (guess why) but have you tried these stands?
I made my choice based on my experience. The fact
the two of the most experienced (ever) naim people use them is also testimony to their quality.
Like it or lump it - there is more than one choce of stand for Naim equipment.

If you're going to stick something in your living room how it looks is a consideration as well as how it sounds. If this wasn't the case why why do we care how Naim's new 5 series looks?
Also I expect Ash designs have at least as much understanding of acoustic engineering as Mana who have never been able to explain the science behind their tables.
I have considered incidentally a Mana ref for the Gyro but so far haven't had a chance to try them together. I also have heard Mana several times and have not felt it to be any better or worse than its competitors - indeed despite having a huge investment in stands at recent hi-fi shows Mana has made a sound which I found very disappointing - surely if their stands were capable of such stellar performance this would be reflected in their show sound?
I still subscribe to an essentially neutral view that stands are important but any decently engineered one which results in good isolation will release the potential of the equipment placed on it.

How am I ever going to realise the potential of my equipment?

I know, I know,I'm just as bad as the rest now!!

Having just taken a look at the Ash website I have to say I like it
Jonathon,
Is that anything to do with the fact that you have contributed to the site?

As I am living in France I was a little bit unquiet since I was told there were lots of problems with broken glass shelves.
But I must say that ASH did their job on a very professional way.
This rack was recommended to me by Peter Coles former manager from Studio 99 in London.

You're right - they have posted my comment but I didn't know about it at all! I presume they lifted it from my customer feedback card!
Topmarks for observation!
