The Bristol HiFi Show
Posted by: Don Atkinson on 13 January 2003
The Bristol Show will be upon us very shortly, btw does anybody know the exact dates, its usually during February.
From memory, the biggest NAME at the show is usually NAIM, but last year ISTR that Mr Lord of REL was putting on a very enthusiastic and entertaining personal demonstration.
So, what will Naim be demonstrating this year ?
Will the top line up be cd500/552/500/dbl (guess the retail price of the cd500. £12,000 ?)
Will the second line up be cdsiii/252/Scap/300/SL (guess the price of the cdsiii. £7,000 incl power supply ?)
For a company that encourages the "source first" philosophy anything less should attract the attention of the investigative press!!.unless of course there was a top flight TT up front. (only joking!)
We will all be looking at what DVD player Naim use in their audio vis room, and of course which plasma screen they use, and of course which subs they use!!.
Cheers

Sadly it clashes with my first beer festival of the year in Hove.
Beer or hi-fi, beer wins!

Hi Marco
It was intended to be a witty comment following Toms reply - should have read "Surely faster than a speeding mullet"
However my work laptop does not get on with the new Forum. So I end up looking an utter twat.
But I dont care because I get my Akiva tommorrow.
Yeeeeeehaaaa thank heaven for drawdown on mortgages. The Nagger would kill me if she knew.
What about a great big love in at the Bristol show, then?
Mike

Chaps
I will be flying back into the Uk from Teneriefe on the 23rd, so I should be able to make the weekend. Its less than an hours drive for me.
I was thinking of taking a Sarah Brightman CD to try on the CDS3.
Regards

That is very nice of you but I honestly don't mind you playing her publically. You can borrow it for the day if you want.

Sorry, not possible for us to "pre book" for the Bristol Show. I suggest that on arrival you go directly to the mezzanine and talk to the lovely Anna and request a ticket for one of the dems in the presidential suite. I'll let you know a bit nearer the time what we'll be using.
Mick qualifies for a "private session" because of his exquisite musical tastes. Remember the first time you tried blue cheese!!!

Mike, in my opening post i said
We will all be looking at what DVD player Naim use........ and....... which subs they use!!.
A new sub could be on the cards at Bristol. Lets face it, the past year or so has seen a couple of centre channel speakers, the Alae and the SL and I haven't heard of hoards of speaker researchers being laid off, or taking extended holidays to the Maldives!
AaaNnnnDddd, at recent shows, Naim have been using PAIRS of M&K subs (none of yer poncy single subs) Now PAIRS of subs could see lots of NAP 300 sales....or derivitives of Nap 500s specialising in lower frequencies.
I wonder
Cheers

Mike,
We're comming from the same direction..
At the Heathrow show last year, Roy George ? Naims top designer ? made it clear they do intend to develope a sub. I recon a 'small' one is on the cards for Bristol with the REAL one turning up at Heathrow in September......
Good enough bet....?
cheers

Alan,
I'm starting to worry about this
Have you started writing your acceptance speech ? Let me help...
"My Lords Ladies and Gentlemen........."
Dead easy, don't know why you're worrying...
Must have been over 2,000 people at last year's show

Mike,
Normally I have gone on the Sunday. This year I'm now holding off making a decision until I know which day the Great Anorak award ceremony will take place........Alan sounds like he needs a few supporters around, like about 2,000 or so.
Cheers

Only 10 or 11 days to go!!
to the Bristol Show.
Now we know that a '500' Series CD player is dead in the starting blocks. So the top line up on the 10th floor has to be the 'soon-to-be-realeased' cds3 fronting a 552/3*500 active into a pair of DBLs.......
The AV has GOT to be something spectactular, otherwise it just blends in with the surroundings and the other 50 or so AV dems. The AV2/amps/front/rear/centre speakers are sorted, so which screen, which DVD player and who's subs will be helping it all to stand out?
Cheers

Its Saturday
Looks like I'm going to have to work Sunday, so I shall be paying a visit to Bristol on Saturday. Any one else going Saturday, or will I have the whole place to myself??

What do you look like, Don?
Actually being a newbie that would be cheeky
So yeah, will it be top line stuff in the closed sesh - I missed it last year due to an open sesh in the pub at lunchtime...
Marriot beer is a rip - there's an O'Neils (or Wetherspoons - can't remember which) nearby if you want cheaper beer, or you could head downtown to the Bag'o'nails for a decent real ale and totally different 1800s surroundings (including original gas lighting!).
When the music's over turn out the lights
