Over a period of about 6 months haunting one of my local 2nd hand vinyl shops which happens to be run by a guy who appreciates Jazz I managed to collect this 3 LP set:
This is from July 1977 and was the first time Pepper had appeared in New York as a leader. Well beyond his tumultuous battles with Heroin addiction it is marvellous stuff that I recommend. I guess Pepper had a lot of emotional baggage by this point which infuses his playing IMO.

"Saturday Night at the Vanguard"
I'll have to check it out. Especially because it has a great lineup including the master . . . Elvin Jones!
"Art Pepper + 11: Modern Jazz Classics" is always a good listen.

Glad you liked the video. Yeah, Art was a hard swinger. I can also highly recommend his Savoy sides, The Discovery Sessions, a.k.a. Surf's Up, and Smack Up and Meets the Rhythm Section both for Prestige.

Geoff
There is another LP in the Vanguard set, called Volume 4 - More for Les. It's actually my favourite of the lot. It was a BBC documentary on Art that got me into Jazz back in 1984 - he was a brilliant player.
