I hate New Year parties

I just don't get it. All that waiting for midnight and then....oh that's it then, let's go home.
Last year I stayed at home. This year we have a bash to go to. It's so boring.

Oh Rasher you're such a party pooper! Get with the spirit - think of the alternative ... Jools Holland ... or music ... ok, you're not such a party pooper.
NYE is bearable for us only in that we have only a small personal social circle (because of the anti-social nature of my work...) so don't get invited to too many huge parties! Delightfully for us, for the fourth year in a row we're spending it with a couple of friends we want to spend it with.
We'll be listening to lot of extreme vinyl on an American Marantz system that sounds just great in their fantastic room (the best upgrade of all - roll on your new music room...) they spent a decade in SF, California, and we get the audio benefit. And we'll have lots of intellectually stimulating and silly conversation in equal measure, and it'll be an evening we treasure for the whole year.
If it wasn't for that, we'd be in bed by 10pm (no, don't let your mind do overtime). New year - bah, humbug...

My New Year's bash won't be. It will be at home! And I very much doubt it will finish with the Sounding Of Midnight from Big Ben, though that will be there of course!
Plan for New Year's Eve; Bigos, baked potatoes, Polish beer, and vodka.
Plan for New Year's Day; Try to wake up in time for the Concert from Vienna! Some hope!
No plans to avoid a headache this New Year then from Fredrik!
PS: This plan was not my idea, but I am more than happy with it.

I agree with the "party circle". I will also not be attending any.
However, on New Year's Day we will be joining some family to have a long meal over more than an adequate amount of good wine, cognac and malt.
Start the year as you mean to go on ......

Have to agree with you rasher.

Tradition tends to drag us into this annual nonsense.
It is of course an excellent excuse for alcohol abuse, if one is that way inclined.
Do we perhaps need some false excitement for what can be a depressing time, and the peak period for suicides?
Now there's a cheery thought. Have a good one.
John.

Never ever been to a New Year's party. Only spent one New Year's Eve in a pub in my life. Much prefer to spend it at home with the missus/kids (when home!) preparing for the New Year's day family gathering.

Totally agree with Rasher. New Years Eve etc? A total waste of time. I will ignore it and hope it goes away.

I've been invited next door so I don't think I'll have a problem getting home.
I just wish they could make midnight a bit earlier.

Well don't go to them!

I prefer to mark the beginning of the year more positively by doing something I really like!
This year I will be in bed early on NYE so I can be up at dawn and have a wander around magically empty London streets with my camera.
Or maybe I'm just weird!

Excellent advice - I'll stay at home.
Is Andy Stewart on the TV as usual?

I am lucky enough to be a member of AA (not the motoring one - the real 4th emergency service one!). We shall have a totally alcohol-free party with a band, some of whom are also members and some of whom are extremely well known. Helped to set the venue up yesterday and was able to stay for the rehearsal. Can't wait for tonight. And, of course, no fear of a hangover! Perfect start to 2007. A happy and healthy New Year to all.

When younger I always 'tried' to enjoy myself in pubs and parties and with the odd exception failed. Since kids I have enjoyed a couple of 'rounds of the neighbours' and too much wine. This year we are having a quiet night in with some Champers, wine, nice food from M & S and some great music........that is when the kids decide its bedtime............................ I'm rather looking forward to it.

and a very good 4cd best of Thin Lizzy boxed set I picked up yesterday.
I have a bottle of champagne open, some finest fish, what more do you need?

Sounds good to me PB. I'd much rather be a Renegade and listen to Jonny the Fox, than do what I've been let in for!

Further to previous post, it worked out as John Coltrane 'A Love Supreme' leading up to midnight, and Champagne and Grateful Dead 'Blues for Allah' after the strike of 12. So, with our particular company, New Year's Eve couldn't get much better. Fortunately, no party!

We live way out in the countryside and refuse to countenance the exorbitant taxi fares that a trip out would cost, so the pair of us tend to have a quiet evening in. Jules Holland was disappointing, so we ended up watching a DVD, pausing to wish the New Year in.
This morning I was greatly amused by the following line in one of the other threads:
It is great to start the new year with a smile
Cheers

I guess we all got through it okay, but I have to admit that New Year is a celebration too far for me, especially as my daughter has a birthday on the 28th which is far more important. Only had one relative die this Christmas.
I'm back at work today and apart from missing my family, I'm glad to be here, and it's started well already. My little boy starts school for a full day on Thursday and that's my main concern right now. I think it's going to be a good year, and a memorable one for me with some big, big changes, starting with a house move in a few weeks time (I'm more concerned about transporting my SBL's than anything else).

Happy New Year you miserable gits!
I've just got back this evening from a New Year spent in Edinburgh with my in-laws. We went out for New Year's Eve to a Comedy Club. It was great fun and the cancellation of the street party just meant it was a damn site easier to get a cab home.
Mind you, if I had opened my coat I could probably have sailed home even quicker on the gales that were blowing!
