Royalty fees

A friend of mine is having one of his tunes played on Radio 3 on Friday night. He knows nothing about royalty fees - whether he's due anything and how to go about making sure he's paid.
Can anyone advise? How much would you normally be paid for having your music played on radio?

Royalties are usually paid out by broadcasters through the PRS (www.prs.co.uk). It's unusual to get a 'one off' fee, as broadcasters usually assume you are a PRS member.

In my experience anyhow!
