I've got an iron related problem.

If you're a fellow Mana user, please see my thread at the other forum.

To keep this post on topic, here's a pic of my system on the floor. I can confirm that it sounds awful in this configuration.

Just spread those boxes out a bit and remove the scaffolding and you'll be fine.

usually one slides the glass in from the sides, tilted on to the diagonal (EG - front edge down, rear edge high at back.

Hey wow - now you can put in a 14" TV set into that large mid-space to watch hockey while you listen!

That's what I thought- but it wouldn't fit, no way, no how.

Dumbfounded at 2:30am, I posted some pleas for help and went to bed.

Checking ye olde forums in the morning, everyone was telling me to put the glass in lengthwise into the front, then rotate it whilst inside the framework.

Well, at least you all know how dim I really am.

Khoi, I can't really say what sort of improvements there are yet, as I've just finished assembling the thing. I'll no doubt post a long winded post about it soon...

I think the Fraim has a slight edge on looks, don't you.

Apologies to Mike etc but it ain't beautiful.

Yes, Mana has that distinctly industrial look. However, it does the busines sonically. If you can get along with the looks (it seems that Mike S. already has a CD holder to match), then it's not a problem. If, however, you can't tolerate it's "aesthetics" in your living room, then you hide it in the closet (like I've done).

The floor was inferior in all criteria.

To me, the most obvious was the shrinking of the sound. Loss of bass control was also apparent. The music simply wasn't as involving.

Khoi, you're not getting what you paid for by putting your system on the floor. Do you have any plans for a rack? It need not be expensive and will bring great improvement!

No problem. I'm one of those wierdos whose esthetic sense damns all Sonus Fabers as hopelessly gaudy, disdains leather seating surfaces and prefers boxy automobiles.

The big custom gap notwithstanding, I think the stuff looks fantastic, particularly the way the emerald edges of the glass sparkle in the light. It's quite ethereal, actually. Pretty hard to capture these qualities in a snapshot. Besides, that wide gap might not look too bad with a NAP500 or espresso machine in there.

Not I. Since we're strictly talking looks, IMHO the Fraim clashes to many design motifs: rectangles, triangles, spheres, crescents, glass, wood, aluminium, etc.
Also, the classic Naim boxes we all know and love looks out of place on the Fraim.
I find the all black version the least visually jarring of the Fraims.
