250 with quad electrostatics

Anybody had any experience with this combination, specifically with regard to the amp cutting out at high-ish volume levels on one or more channels, it will reset after it’s been switched of for a few minutes, is this not a good combo?

You have to call Naim with your speaker model. The 250 can output a too large voltage for some electrostatics. They can tell you if there is a mod to do on the amp to protect your speakers.

John,
I have driven Quad 988's with both a NAP 250 and a NAP 135, personally I don't think that the naim amps are the perfect partner for the Quads, and I sold my 135's and moved elsewhere. I still have a 250 that I occasionally use with the Quads. The voltage issue is not that important with the newer quads but the big problem is their imedence drops which can cause the 250 problems. Strangely I have a 250 with a 3 digit serial number that was serviced by Naim recently and that works far better than a green style 250 that I used to have.

I have run my ESL 57's with a 250, many times.
No problems at all, apart from the possibility overdriving the Quads and damaging them.

John and or Stuart,
I drove my 63s for over 10 years with a 250.
No issues at all. You can if you like, have NANA set the voltage on the 250.
What also helps is to make sure you have the latest protection mods for the Quads.
Other than that,well...you can crossover at the input of the 250 at 40Hz. Get a pair of True Subs and go nuts with the fun you would have?
More on this if you are interested....
Regards,
Marc
