Bathroom shaver sockets

Posted by: TomK on 22 September 2010

I'm having to replace our shaver socket and since we now have a few toothbrushes to charge as well as my shaver I was wondering if anybody had come across a double socket unit. I've found plenty of dual voltage dual sockets but does anybody know if both sockets can be used simultaneously.
Finally, would a new socket fit into the wall fixture I already have, which is thirty years old?

speak to a qualified electrician mate. I know plenty about Mains electric but internals are a different thing.

Cheers. I think the answer is no there are no dual socket fixtures readily available. It was just an idle thought, hardly essential.

Tom - have a think again about the dual voltage double outlets especially if all you need is a charger point(s)

Most appliances that need power to charge batteries can take voltages over a wide range - 110-240v.
The 2 makes of toothbrushes we have are so as is my cordless Philips shaver.

Both outlets on my 110-220 MK unit can be used simultaneously

That's interesting Mike. I'd considered that but thought the sockets switched automatically so only one could be live at any time.
Thanks for that. Looks like it might be possible after all.

Might need to look a little harder Tom, sorry but I might have led u up a goats trail Frown

I now see the latest MK double outlets prevent inserting 2 plugs with linked shutters. It reads like its a regulation.
My outlet is about 20 years old and will take 2 plugs at a time so I guess is pre regulation.

I've looked around for spec sheets & found almost none have them or are specific enough.
It might mean u need to go to a few stores and try sticking 2 plugs into the appliance at a time.
Not an arrestable offence, but I guess very frustrating.

BTW - I hardly ever use the shaver socket(s), I normally charge my stuff from a bedroom 13amp with adaptor.
SWMBO has more or less sole use of the bathroom socket.
