New XPS
Posted by: NB on 03 October 2002
I have just purchased an XPS for my CDX player and am looking forward to many hours of good listening.
How long does it take for the XPS to come on song and whats the best way of getting the best out of the XPS.
Finally many thanks to Julian of Jeffries for his prompt, polite and proffesional help in my purchase of my XPS.
Regards

In my experience the XPS needs to have the best support you can give it. If you had to put either the CDX or the XPS on the floor, I'd say the CDX! Couldn't believe it at first ...
As concerns run-in time I think you should pretty much get 95% after one or two weeks. Naturally, others will beg to differ and suggest several months.

At the moment its going to have to share a support until I can get a new layer for my Fraim.

Well I have now been using my system for a few days now and my first impressions are wow what a revaltion. The new sound is definately clearer and more precise. Sound staging is also better.
The new XPS has definately been a worthwhile upgrade.
My only reservation is there seems to be bass. Is this normal or while the bass improve over time?

Yes it sounds better but over two grands worth of upgrade, I DON'T THINK SO.
you must consider it to be the downpayment on the CDSii - then it is a very different purchase, then only a few k for the puck and the player comes free.

When I think of how many years I am going to have the XPS and the many hours of listening I am going to have, I consider that an investemnt of £2,000 isn't that bad. Sure I could spend less on a hi-fi but am I going to get the same enjoyment out of it?
