My beloved Nait 5 volume control

Posted by: Hans 67 on 16 August 2003

Hello all,

yes, I love the volume control of my Nait 5.
With serious listening I put the knob somewhere between 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock. And when the Nait 5 amplifies background noise then the knob is around 8 o'clock. Thus a wide control range, making fine adjustment easy.
I use my remote control frequently. And with the electronic volume control I am not afraid for degradation in the long run.

If I want my beloved volume control then my upgrade path stops with the NAC112. And I know that Naim claims that the potentiometers in the NAC202 and upwards sound better. And Naim wants sound first.

Your thoughts please.

Greetings, Hans

Good point. I have a 112 and a 202. The volume control on the 112 is not only adjustable to match input levels; it is much nicer than the 202, to operate by remote.

It moves at the right speed for CD, then speeds up a few seconds later.

The 202 volume has to be 'double-clicked' to move it at the right speed for CD adjustment, which is a bit of a pain. If it doesn't receive the 'second-click' the volume moves too fast.

I reckon that the 'double-click' speed should be the default setting.
