How will you celebrate? I believe I shall listen to some Brahms, Schubert, and maybe even some Beethoven.

Excellent idea. I shall dig out my terrible Italian pressing of Brahms' 2nd piano concerto, with Edwin Fischer. Terrible sound quality, even worse piano technique with lots of mistakes, but it's Fischer and Furtwängler and that's the door to heaven.

I listened to Death and Transfiguration last night on EMI. Studio recording.

I heard the Chicago Symphony do this a few months ago, and they really made a case for this music. I've been to the library many times to borrow CDS (Szell, HvK, etc.) Nothing was worth listening to.

Furt brought back real music.

Tonight, I may put on some Toscanini.

BTW, Henry Fogel will play Furt between 7 and 9 PM, central standard time, for the next 7 weeks on WFMT - FM in Chicago, webcast everyplace else.

Indeed you should ! Normally I don't like Brahms' orchestral work very much, but today I heard his 3rd on the radio.

First time I heard some Brahms by Furtwängler, and first time I was absolutely spellbound with a Brahms symphony !
