To Frank and Others: Hold-over Issues with my Dynaudio Contour 1.8's

Posted by: Jaybar on 09 July 2001

While I have gotten the placement mainly right, two issues remain:

1) Even at 60" (measured from the front of the speaker) from the wall behind them, the bass is more prominent than I would like. The concrete/cinder block construction of my room retains a good deal of bass, compared to other construction materials.

I don't thing bass traps would help and would be rejected for aethetic reasons.

Would raising them a bit off the floor help? Even at their highest, the spike are not very tall. Any suggestions?

2) I plan to put in more (additional) LP/CD storage units which are solid oak. The CD storage is in drawers which are also oak, so the plastic part is not exposed. To optomize aethestics to CD/LP storage units would be about 22" in front of the speaker and about a foot to the left of the left speaker and about 40" High

The systems on the right hand wall will be lower (33" high) and about 29" inches in front of the speaker and about a foot to the right of the right speaker. Will this compromise speaker performance?

Otherwise I have run about of room for CD's/LP's. In the future I can then build upwards or add more units behind the speakers, but that might cause problems of its own. Based on my rate of purchase, the new units would last me 2-3 years.
