PMC DB1

Going on from a previous topic I posted does anyone have any experience of the above speakers?

If so how long did they take to run in, what stands are you using them with how do you have them positioned in your room etc.

Thanks,

Rob

I heard them in a couple of demo rooms on Atacama single pillar stands with a Nait 5 and they sounded very good. I remember they had a punchy sound with good clarity, they sounded bigger than their dimensions.

Thanks for the great replies.

I used the same amp as the one I use at home (a valve amp) but the shop CD Player which was a Rega 2000 (as opposed to my Sony XA333es CD/SACD Player which retails at twice the price) and used a pair of their stands which I am not sure of the make. I use Mission Stance Stands filled with sand.

I am still not getting that "big" sound that I heard in the shop.

A friend of mine once sent me this after moving to Spain...

"Having set up my equipment, I can now listen to this music in a more open setting. Because I don't have the proper amount of space for the Mission 754's, before I left Reading I bought a pair of PMC DB1 tiny monitor speakers. I first wired these up yesterday afternoon and was horrified when I first heard them compared with the demo. pair I had listened to at the store. However, I subsequently read in the literature that they required up to 20 hours 'running in' time, and I'm pleased (and rather amazed) to say that they now sound completely different after about 10 hours of use. At first there was insufficient detail and a 'boomy', slow bass response. Currently, the amount of detail released has me looking around the room in order to try and decide where all the 'funny' noises are coming from, and the bass is much tighter and punchy."

and a couple of months later...

"I'm playing music day and night. All the other owner/occupiers of the block seem to be away, so volume has ceased to be a consideration. My tiny but magnificently impressive PMC DB1 loudspeakers continue to amaze, with visiting friends even finding it difficult to accept that so much good sound could come from such diminutive enclosures. I would recommend them to anyone."

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the useful replies.

I think I am now at a stage of giving up on these speakers. I have given them plenty of time to run in and have messed around with placement, have emptied the stands of sand (which basically took away virtually any bass they had) and then filled them up again which gelps slightly.

I have currently got them within around 2 to 3 inches of the wall and while this helps the bass slightly all the soundstaging has disappeared.

I will be going back the dealer on bended knee to see what they can do. If not, its off to Ebay.
