Expert Stylus Rebuilt Troika

Posted by: Alex S. on 09 January 2002

I have one of these and I'm very happy with it.

Nonetheless, the bloke at ES said they do an upmarket Troika rebuild with a better diamond, boron cantilever and other bits I've forgotten about.

Does anyone know if this beast sounds any better?

Alex

PS. Sorry, this is a duplicate of what I asked the Mana forum but all I got there were some strange noises from Mr Pig and his mate.

I think boron cantilevers work well in most applications. However, if you're used to the Troika's fairly warm sound, you'd lose that.

If you like the Troika as it was, then I'd stick with the aluminium pipe.

Frank.

Alex

I saw your thread on the mana site and, as I have a worn troika, gave ES a call. The guy I spoke to said that although the boron cantilever troika had been produced it is not a commercially available service. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick from the guy I talked to. Can you shed any more light?

Cheers.

When I spoke to them a few months ago, and bought a normal Troika from them, we talked briefly about Karmas, Arkivs and Troikas in general. Wyndham Hodges (I hope) certainly implied that the boron cantilevered Troika was an upgrade possibility with them although I didn't discuss it in detail.

I remember the conversation well enough since it struck me that although they don't rate the Arkiv very highly it is not the boron cantilever which puts them off it. They also assert that a Karma and a Troika are identical inside the shell.
