According to Which? It's -
Panasonic TX-L32X10, followed by Panasonic TX-L32G10, then same but LXD80, then X15, then X10.
Then Sony Bravia 32V5500.
Which? like Panasonic, & so do I.

Have a quick look on http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk for some background info on the tv's reviewed.
If we were talking 40" plus Then it would be the plasma panasonicG10 for what benefits plasma offers over lcd. I couldn't quite stretch to the panny plus some location factors and bought a samsung LE40b650 which for me so far is excellent (real deep blacks) with an excellent sd signal performance and feature count.
At 32" lcd I would have definitely chose the Samsung again. Also to mention the extensive picture calibration controls which are user accessible without having to break into the service menu.

The new Philips 9000 Series is also supposed to be very good - a big improvement on their previous models.

Thanks for the link Zorba
I am specifically looking for a 32" to suit a particlar room. 37" would be too large. We already have a nice Pioneer 50" in another room.
Cheers

I've got a 32" Samsung in our second home; it has a superb picture but the sound's very poor. I invested in a Yamaha Sound Bar which improved things considerably.
I don't think Pioneer make a 32" model Don.

They do Tony, though it's LCD...It's better than the competition, though probably not enough to justify it's cost difference...
However, finding any Pioneers will be the issue...!

I think you might be right Tony. Jude (from Grahams HiFi) called me today and said that Pioneer have stopped ALL their flat screen production. Best of the rest would be Panasonic or Sony but they don't even come close to the Pioneer in his estimation.
He also mentioned that enquiries/demand for Pioneers is stronger that it ever was when they were available!!!
So it looks like the Panasonic TX L32V 10B; TX L32G 10B; Sony KDL 32W5810 are the realistic choices after all.

My neighbour has just spent about £2,000 on a 32" Loewe LCD. It has not arrived yet and it will be interesting to see if is worth four times as much as a Panasonic, or indeed whether it is better than my 32" Loewe CRT, which is as big as a fridge but has a great picture.

eeeek! I was thinking c.£750 and never mind the "fridge" - it has to be "slimline"
Grahams sell Loewe and they do have nice oictures, but they must have sussed that c.£2k was beyond my budget on this one!

Hi Don
I am normally a Panasonic man. I have two of their flat screens and previously their CRT's. I have always been delighted with their TV's, and still am!
Today, I purchased a Sony 32V5500 [for £479] and it is great too. The sound is not marvelous but what LCD is? I would have normally gone with another Panasonic but the 5500 fitted the bill better this time so I made the switch to Sony.
I'd be happy to recommend either brand.

Thanks. In the end, Mrs D felt a 32" would be too big for the room/location and insisted on a 26" model..........(she would really have prefered a 19" model!!)
She prefered the style of the Sony rather than the Panasonic, so I bought a 26" Sony Bravia 26S5500 from John Lewis. They will deliver next week and take away the old, defunkt, oversised CRT that is dominating a spare bedroom. Job done. Not perfect IMHO but.....
Cheers

Don,
Please be aware that there is a known fault with this Sony model. It occurs if you leave on standby overnight; the next morning the remote control does not work; the only fix is switch off/on at the plug. A search on google (say amazon) will tell you all you need to know. Apart from this problem, the TV gets a good review. I don't leave tv on standby, so it is still on my list. The equivalent Panasonic seems to be in short supply.
Regards,
Steve D

Thanks Steve
It will be delivered on Saturday, so it sounds as though its a "duffer" even before we get it out of the box!!!!!!!!!
Oh well, Mrs D doesn't beleive in leaving things on standby - something to do with global warming, whatever that might mean....so we might never notice?
Cheers

Hi Don
I hope you dont have the problem Steve alludes to!
Just a couple of things with mine which may affect yours;
The instructions state you should turn it off by the remote instead of using the switch on the TV. This is something to do with it updating the TV "Guideplus" function
Also, on the "Guideplus" TV guide I really don't like being subjected to adverts. Sony are obviously making a fast buck here and I think this is pretty poor. I don't have this on my Pannys.

Hijack warning - Don, feel free to have the post removed.
Any recommendations for a 26 to 32 inch flatscreen that deals well with standard definition? Do they now get close to CRT re SD?
Cheers,

No probs with the "hijack", that what makes forums interesting.
The 26 Sony won't arrive until Saturday, so don't yet know how it might compare to a similar sized CRT on TV or SD DVD. main reason for getting it was room-decor for Mrs D...........!!
Cheers

Hi,
My girlfriend is looking to buy a new TV but haven't a clue as to where to start.
Seen some great deals on plasmas. Are these a good place to start?
The current old one is a CRT Panasonic 100 hertz.
LCD, Plasma, LED?
Budget is around £600/800.
I'm not a TV man, so i thought to come here to seek advice.
Kind regards,
Steve
