I bought a hifi-mag!!!!!!!!!

i thought i was cured. but i did pay some quid for the usual bad prose and stupid stuff. whatever, the reason i bought it is because the german magazine stereoplay offered a cd. the cd has 20something tracks. each track plays a piece of music on a different item of gear. now track 18 is the naim fraim, track 19 the ikea table ikvar and no 20 is a creaktive base. the idea is, that you hear the differences that are audible in the listening room of this magazine. (i think mana will be on one of the upcoming cds)
well, the difference between naim and ikea is audible. no arguing necessary. the cd might not tell you all about the differences but you get the idea. fortunately the differences are far larger than the ones between the five compared styluses (4 van den Hul, 1 Grado The Statement) IMO.
what do you think: is this a clever idea to demo things? beware: four different styluses in the same tt and you do not have to leave the house.

That was a new and really clever idea!
Think of it, comparing 202, 282, 552 to each other. In the privacy of your own home. With and without HiCap or SuperCap.
I like the idea, I might even buy the mag.
Reminds of a LP I have with exactly the same music om both sides. One was analogy recorded, the other digitally. Careful not to check which side was what I put it on and compared. No problems, I could hear what was digital and what was analogue. Checking the sides I found out that, of course, I was wrong!

What happens when you play this CD on a Fraim-based system? Think of all the philosophical implications ...

of course i did all that thinking until my head spun. how can my cdp possibly tell me the finer differences of an analogue system? does my cdp now sound as good as the original source? probably not. but then it was late and i got tired and switched back to music again. stupid cd.

Shinpad asked:

Well, this was in 1987, I think. In those days I was distinctly anti digital, so my reasoning was that the one I prefered must be analogue.
Never played the record since, as it completely destroyed everything I beleived in!

Vastly different. When you try to upload British HTML code on a German server, all the humour tags are shot. Irony automatically shows up as sarcasm, self-depreciation becomes self-aggrandisation. Damn incompatibility.
