Do you find that only the 1st CD has great tracks when you buy a multi-pack of CDs?

Hi, I had to ask this question and I want to clarify it before anyone gives me an answer!!
If I were to buy a CD collection, such as Buddha Beats and the pack comes with e.g. 3 discs, the first disc is the one where they put all the good tracks (and take care that it is really listenable), and the other two CDs are poor.
I have found this with Brazilian Beats, several ambient chillout discs that come in packs of 3, even all the trance CDs I used to buy in my early twenties; the first disc has care put in to it, but the others havent!!
I know this excludes collections such as Barrett's collection which I also have, but does anyone agree with me???
Do they do this as they know humans will play the first disc first and be impressed, and not put the same effort in with the others for budget and marketing reasons???
I hope at least someone agrees with me!!!
Regards,
Jon

Jon, I'd love to agree with you, but I've never bought anything with more than 2 cds in it, and and have to agree with H.
Chillout collections?? Eek! Coffee table hell.
Perhaps like the collection compilers, please try harder. : )

I think it depends on the music genre, I have bought some amazing packs recently but they are all classical music.

In general with classical "cycles" contained in multi-CD issues there are high points and low. The chances of the high point being on the first disc is random in my experience.
Usually I prefer to select music on individual discs or sets where there is only one piece contained, but there are great exceptions!

Some nice tips there!!
(I guess!

)
Although I have to add on to it as my partner is into pop music and gets hold of all the NOW THATS WHAT I CALL MUSIC XX.
I must stress I despise this music, but in order to maintain harmony, must tolerate. She reports the same thing - when they advertise this music on TV they highlight the good tracks and those good tracks are on the first disc. That's whats spurred me to suspect that it is marketing and budgeting combined!
But Munch, I will always listen to the last CD first now and see if this alters my opinion!!!

I do not agree - in the Janis Joplin Box Set -Pearl is the last CD and it is outstanding - the whole set is great, but the last is the best.
Compare with Fairport Uncoventional where
Ribbon Bow excepted, it is all rubbish. Don't forget I think Fairport Convention are God's gift to music.
Then there is Picture Book by the Kinks - every track seems to be a winner - what a great set.
And then there is the ultimate Box set in the history of Box Sets - Rubble. 20 CDs containing some of the greatest music of all time, The highlight of the whole set is indeed the first CD, which contains what is for my money the greatest single ever released
Save My Soul by Wimple Winch. Yet still as we reach Volume 20, we have great tracks like The Soft Machine's first single
Love Makes Sweet Music.
It is all here on the wonderful Marmalade Skies web-site So I don't agree I'm afraid -
please click here for some great value box setsATB Rotf

Buddha Beats? Brazilian Beats? Ambient Chillout? Not my taste, but each to his own I guess.
When you say "they put all the good tracks", who is "they"? Box-sets of actual artists' albums are one thing. Compilations? I never waste my time.
I'm also too old to have ever thought of DJs, compilers, or people who just re-mix others people's stuff as "artists", either.

I'm with you on this. It's like people who get out of bed or just put something in a glass case and think they created some "art".

Not sure about collections but I have several CDs which are brilliant for the first 40-45 minutes then dive in quality of both recording and song-writing...
oh hang on, those are the 'bonus tracks' tacked on to the end of LPs re-issued as CDs and padded out to 60 minutes plus

Oh I don't know -
singalongamax volume 7 was fine - not trying to be too controversial, but I would go as far as to say it improved upon the award winning
singalongamax volume 6 - is this series going to be re-issued in HDCD.
