Sax in Hopper's film Catchfire/Backtrack

Posted by: Michael_B. on 30 October 2006

Maybe someone can help with this. Dennis Hopper directed a slightly eccentric film in which he acted with Jodie Foster in the 70s. In this film he played a hit-man who is an amateur sax player. Most of the sax stuff is improvisation. There is one sustained solo I particularly enjoyed. Does anyone have any idea who played this?

Cheers

Michel Colombier - Composer (Music Score)
Gary Goetzman - Musical Direction/Supervision
Curt Sobel - Composer (Music Score)

Any of these any help?

Thanks. I also dug those up on the net, but nothing that gives me the vaguest idea who played (assuming it wasn't Dennis!) or who else I might find who plays in a similar way.....

Help! Confused

Cheers

The film was called Backdraft, or Catchfire in the states. I like it when you say, "Dennis Hopper directed a slightly eccentric film" - was there ever another typre of film he directed ? Joe Pesci lobied to have his name taken off the credits, perhaps the sax player did the same, althought the musical director, Curt Sobel has an illustrious career, including working on Ray, the Ray Charles biopic.
